As a lawyer, the following things must be observed/prepared before meeting a client for
an initial conference:

1. Facts/information needed shall be obtained in order to decide whether or not to


accept the case considering the potential conflict of interest. Attorney-client
privilege shall be observed.
2. Since the client shall be the boss practice active listening and let the client finish.
3. Initial facts given by the client prior to the meeting must be reviewed. Since the
client is considering to file an annulment, the lawyer shall review the applicable
laws and the grounds for filing an annulment. Possible solutions and guide
questions to be used in the initial conference shall then be drafted.
4. The lawyer must also manage the client’s expectations. Make them understand
that the process could be lengthy and also pricey in order to avoid confusion and
misunderstanding.
5. The client must then be made aware of their responsibilities like the payment of
the legal fees and other expenses.
6. Define the attorney-client relationship from the time the case is accepted.
Prepare a written contract as to the terms and conditions of handling said case.
All papers necessary must be documented.
7. Always be courteous and professional in all your dealings.
