Required Data for Generator Decrement Curve

Description: Required data to plot the generator decrement curve in ETAP STAR

Category: STAR

Type: Information

Keywords: STAR, Generator, Decrement Curve

The generator decrement curve is based on IEEE Std 242-2001 Section 12.3.3. The decrement
curve consists of an ac and dc component. The equations for each are as follows.

Total ac component of armature current:

Total dc component of armature current:

Total RMS current:

Refer to the standard for more details on these equations.

The following table contains a list of the required fields in the generator editor to plot the
decrement curve.

* The Tdo” time constant from displayed values in Dynamic Model - Subtransient option is used
for plotting of the generator decrement curve even when it is hidden due to selection of
Transient or Equivalent options.

** IkP corresponds to the amount of fault current the generator can sustain in steady state. If the
generator has forced excitation, then enable the Compound Exc. in the Imp/Model page and
define the value as percentage of the nominal full load current (FLA).
