use the past perfect simple.

PAST PERFECT RIDDLES

1) A man with a pack on his back went into the desert and died. But he
had food, drink, medicines... everything. He was perfectly healthy and he
died instantly.

2) A woman got into a lift. She pressed the button to get up to floor 9.
When she arrived there, she went up the stairs and got to floor 10. That is
where she wanted to get.

3) A man was sentenced to death. He committed a crime that is


punished with the death penalty. When they were going to execute him, the
judge changed his mind and the man was freed.

4) A man walked into a bar. He asked for a glass of water. Then the
barman took out a gun and pointed at him. The man said, ‘Thank you’ and
walked out really happy.

5) There was a small hut in the desert. It was empty except for a dead
man hanging by a rope from the roof and a small pool of water beneath
him. Outside stood a lorry.

6) A man went from town A to town B by train. In town B the man


had gone to see a person. After the meeting he was extremely happy. He
took the train back to A. When the train went into a tunnel he threw himself
from the train and died.

7) A woman was sentenced to death. In the last minute, she was


offered a chance to save her life. The executioner told her that he was going
to show her his both fists and that in one of them he was going to keep a
white ball, plus a black ball in the other hand. If the woman chose the white
ball, she was saved. But all that was a lie: she could see the executioner
putting a black ball in each of his hands. Although it was quite difficult to
succeed, she could save her life.
