Alien Life Form Assignment

Directions: This activity will allow you to use, in a creative way, the knowledge that you have gained concerning the
possibility of life on other planets or large moons in our or other solar systems. You will describe an imaginary complex
alien life form that is well-suited to survive under the conditions on another world (a planet or a large moon).

Brief explanation of your life form’s environment (what features make it different from Earth): Filiti lives on a massive

ice planet that is constantly being struck by meteors. Due to the nature of the planet, the star orbiting it is dim and small

leaving very little light.

What evolutionary features does your life form have that allow it to thrive in its environment? Explain, in detail, how

they work. Filtis have a hard-outer shell that they can roll into at a moment’s notice like a potato bug on earth, this

allows for Filtis to protect themselves from predators and from the rain of meteors. The shell also allows for them to

travel fast on the ice by rolling, using their antennas as a push off point. When in the water year, Filtis can unroll

themselves and use their tail as a fin in order to travel through the water.

How does your life form communicate (NO TELEPATHY)? Please explain in detail (organs, how the language works). The

Filti communicates through Its antenna and rather than passing radio signals the Filti instead communicates through the

sounds made from hitting its antenna on its shell. The shell has different sounds based on where you hit the antenna on

the shell, and they can change the nature of the message on how many times it hits their shell.

How does your life form take in energy? Please explain in detail (organs, digestion, etc.) The Filti takes in energy through

their mouth on the bottom which they use to absorb energy from its prey like a parasite. Also, a second mouth can reach

from the bigger mouth to grab prey from a distance away and pull towards them.

What kind of technology does it use (for example: stone tools, biotechnology, or computer tech.)? The Filti isn’t very

advanced, due to the nature of the grueling planet they are found on, with constant meteor strikes, Filtis have trouble

advancing.

What type of social structure does your life form exist in (tribal, villages, cities). Explain a ritual or a custom they have.

The social structure of Filti is they often travel in packs, moving constantly to avoid meteror strikes and the changing

climate
