Born December 14, 1943, in Dingle Iloilo. She is a


Filipina poet. Graduated from Siliman University
with an MA in Creative Writing Center, University
of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College. She
lives in Tacloban City.

(Catching a shooting star &other poems)

Merlie Alunan books not only demontrates her ability to


manipulate words, she demonstrates her power to give a voice
to a wide range of people, from the most rebellious to the
fairy, from ancient times to the future. You will hear the
voices of the victims of the Balangiga Massacre and the
Ampatuan Massacre and you will be amazed at how Merlie
utters words to turn these tragedies to our country into
poems.

Merlie was not just a poet with an experience. Her power of speech was used to
awaken our emoties so that we would not be able to forget our past as a person and
our nation. And as for me she is one of the people i know that is so great when it
comes to literary poet.
