Harmonic Sequence
1. List down the reciprocals of the terms of the harmonic sequence and
then solve for the 16th term.
4,9,14,… is an arithmetic sequence with a common difference of 5.
t15=t1+(n-1)
t15=4+5(15)
t15=4+75
t15=79
Thus the 16th term of the harmonic sequence ¼,1/9,1/14,… is 1/79.
2. The first term of a harmonic sequence is 2 and the third term is 1, what
is the 20th term?
The arithmetic sequence corresponding to the reciprocal of the terms of
the harmonic sequence has
t1=½ and t3=1
Thus d=1-½ =1/4
2
To find the 20th term, we have
t20=t1+d(n-1)
t20=½+19/4
t20=21/4
Thus the 20th term of the harmonic sequence is 4/21.

Harmonic Mean:
1. To find the harmonic mean, get the arithmetic mean of the
reciprocals of 2 and 6.
(½+1/6)=2/3=1/3
2 2
The arithmetic mean of ½ and 1/6 is 1/3 means that the harmonic mean
of 2 and 6 is 3.
2. Insert two harmonic means between 15 and 60.
Get the reciprocal of 15 and 60 and insert two arithmetic means
between them.
Let t1=1/15 and t4=1/60
t4=t1+(4-1) becomes 1/60=1/15+3d
3d=1/60-1/15
3d=1/60-4/60
3d=-3/60
D=1/60
Thus t2=t1+d=1/15+-1/60=4/60-1/60=3/60=1/20
t2=t1+d=1/15+-1/60=4/60-1/60=3/60=1/20
t3=1/20+(1/60)=3/60-1/60=2/60=1/30
The reciprocal of t2 and t3, are 20 and 30, which are the two
harmonic means between 15 and 60.

(g°f)(x)=g(f(x))

Thus (g°f)(x) =-8x+11
3. If h(x)=3x-5 and g(x)=2x2-7x, find (g°h)(x).
(g°h)(x)=g(h(x))

=2(9x2-30x+25)-7(3x-5)
=18x2-60x+50-21x+35
=18x2-81x+85
Thus (g°h)(x)= 18x2-81x+85
