Labelling is the display of label in a product. A label contains

information about a product on its container, packaging, or the

product itself. It also has warnings in it. E.g. in some products, it is

written that the products contain traces of nuts and shouldn’t be

consumed by a person who’s allergic to nuts. The type and extent

of information that must be imparted by a label are governed by

the relevant safety and shipping laws.

Labelling is also an important part of the brand of the product and

the company. It helps the product stand out in the market, and

identifies it as a part of a particular brand. This is important in the

era of high and intense competition.


Labelling is an important part of the marketing of a

product. Labelling is essential as it helps to grab the

attention of a customer.

Labelling is used for identification. This kind of labeling

helps a viewer to differentiate the product from the rest

in the shelves of the market. A person can find out

about the ingredients of a product. This helps to spread

awareness among the customers about the item they are

consuming and labeling also helps to mention

ingredients.

It should show the correct information about the product.

Labeling should also contain information relating to

whether the product has harmful chemicals, especially if

Ecolabel provide brief information in environmnetal

related product qualities.

It enables customers to identify products which

follows things which are mentioned below-

environmentally safe

manufactured using eco-friendly materials

do no contain chemicals that are harmful to the

eco-friendiness is an additional product quality

and used for marketing and advertising

purposes.

Generally these labels are voluntary and mostly

used for the promotin of the products on the basis

of the environmentally friendly characteristics.


TYPES

The International Organization for

Standardisation (ISO) has identified three broad

types of voluntary labels-

EU FLOWER or
EU ECOLABEL
EU Flower is a label of environmental

excellence that is awarded to products and

services meeting high environmental standards

throughout their life-cycle: from raw material

extraction, to production, distribution and

disposal. This lable comes under type 3.

It was established in 1992 and recognised

across Europe and worldwide.

The EU Flower promotes the circular economy

by encouraging producers to generate less

waste and CO2 during the manufacturing

process.

The EU Ecolabel criteria also encourages

companies to develop products that are

durable, easy to repair and recycle.


ABOUT THE
LOGO

The logo of the label includes a green

color flower with inclined green color

Greek epsilon as a flower. It is

surrounded by 12 blue stars. It must

always be used together with a license

number. Apart from the name EU

Ecolabel this label is also called as EU

Flower because of the logo.


The EU Ecolabel criteria provide exigent guidelines for companies

looking to lower their environmental impact and guarantee the

efficiency of their environmental actions through third party controls.

EU Flower meets the ISO 14020 Type 1 requirements for ecolabels. The

EU Flower criteria are developed and reviewed in coorperation of

experts, industry consumer organisations and environmental NGOs.

EU Flower criteria have been formulated for more than 30 non-food and

non-medical product groups that are reviewed every 3-5 years. The

label applications and licenses are managed by the national competent

bodies.

In addition, the European Commission confirmed that EU Flower criteria

have been changed with a new set of ecological criteria for computers,

CRITERIA furniture and footwear, in order to promote the Europe's transition to a

circular economy, supporting the sustainable production and

consumption in the region.

market in the European Economic Area

(European Union plus Iceland, Lichtenstein

and Norway) that meets the EU Ecolabel

criteria set for that product or service

category can be awarded the EU Ecolabel.

Criteria are currently established for a wide

range of non-food and non-medical product

groups, including detergents, paper towel

rolls, laptops, clothing and tourist

accommodation services.
