GIVING JESUS THANKS

Luke 17:11-19

INTRODUCTION: In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Paul writes: “In everything give thanks; for this
is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Gratitude should be the natural response
of the redeemed. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our salvation. It is understandable that
sinners take the blessings of God for granted. They do not know the Lord; however, there is
no excuse for Christians to be unthankful to the Lord.

I. PLIGHT OF THE LEPERS


A. CONDITION OF THE LEPERS. (v. 11-12)
1. Rejected from society. (Lev. 13:44-46; Num. 5:2-3)
2. Religiously unclean. (Lev. 13:3; 2 Chron. 26:20-23)
3. Ravaged by leprosy.
B. CRY OF THE LEPERS. (v. 13)
1. Their belief in Jesus. “Master”
2. Their request to Jesus. “have mercy on us”

II. POWER OF THE LORD


A. COMPASSION OF JESUS. “he saw them” (v. 14)

A. GRATITUDE OF THE LEPER.
1. Worship of Jesus. “loud voice glorified God”
2. Humility before Jesus. “fell down on his face at his feet”

1. His displeasure with the nine. (v. 17)

LESSONS FOR LIFE:


1. The giving of thanks to God is commanded from every believer.
2. Thanksgiving is an attitude of the heart that acknowledges the goodness and grace
of God.
3. As Christians, we are to be thankful for the mercy and grace of God that saved our
souls from hell.
4. The giving of thanks for God’s blessings and praise for His person are vital in our
worship of God.
5. The salvation of the Samaritan is a reminder that no one is beyond the grace of God.
Any lost person who will repent and turn to Jesus in faith can be saved.
