RESULT AND CONCLUSION

First of all,this expermint is done in order to know the distribution in size of grains in
agiven sample or specimen of soil,to be classified as either poorly graded, well
.graded or gap graded
The results obtained in the experiment indicate that the total mass retained in the
sieves (5806.9g),was less than the total mass of the sample (5808.5g)this difference
was caused by the factor that dictates the effectiveness of asieve which is screen
blinding.during the coarse of the wholeexperiment there were some soil particles
.that had blinded on the meshholesof the screen and were left behind
As a sresult of the calculations we can see that the error is 2.73% , which exceeds the
.limit that is 2% , and in this case our value is not accepted
According to the calculations and the graph (graph(1)) representing these
:calculations , the following values were obtained
D60 = 13mm D30 = 2.8mm
D10 : Unavailable D85 = 23mm
D50 = 9mm D15 = 0.25mm
First the effective size "D10" can't be found (according to the graph), thus the values
of the coefficient of curvature "Cc" and the coefficient of gradation "Cu" , that help in
.classifying the soil, can't be calculated
But we can say that the soil is well graded from observing the graph "percent finer
."VS , Grain Size
Second , the D15 and D85 sizes are used for design of filters . the D50 size is used for
correlation of the liquefacation potential of saturated granular soil during
.earthquakes
The expirement also shows that the value of D60 is (13mm) ,this value indicates the
particle size at which 60% of the particles are coarser and 40% of the particles are
.finer than d60 size
