Cell Discussion 01022011—The Tabernacle of David

In Acts 15:15-18 it was prophesied that God will rebuild David’s fallen tent.

The tabernacle of David consisted only of a hut with the Ark of the Covenant. This is
in contrast to Moses’ Tent of Meeting where the Ark was placed in the holiest of holy
and only the High Priest could access it.

This one room "tent" tabernacle wasn't technically appropriate, according to the Law.
The tent or tabernacle that David made didn't have the veil to separate the Ark of
God from them, and they did not have the altar for the sin sacrifice there. They only
offered burnt sacrifices, peace offerings, and praise and worship before the Ark of
God. But this type of "one-room" tabernacle is what Jesus wants to create in our
heart today. Because Jesus cleanses and frees us completely from sin, there is no
longer anything between us and God. Additional sacrifices for sin are not necessary.
We can now offer our lives to him in sacrificial service, offer peace offerings, and
praise and worship right in the very presence of God himself!

The tabernacle of David was a shadow of New Testament worship. King David
instituted the worshippers from Day One to worship before the presence of God day
and night. It speaks of 24/7 worship. It is our desire that one day ICC too can be a
place where prayers and worship are offered 24/7.

The tabernacle of David is also a blueprint of the New Testament church worship in
that it is inclusive. Acts 15:18 says it is “restored… that the rest of mankind may
seek the Lord, even all the Gentile who bear my name, says the Lord” God desires
that every tongue, tribe and nation can gather before the presence of God 24/7.

In the New Testament, we are called to be a royal priesthood. We are also to

worship God 24/7 in our lives by being conscious of the presence of God in our daily
lives. We are to offer our lives as spiritual burnt offerings before God. Lev 6:13 says
that “the fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously, it must not go out.”

The presence of God in our lives will bring:

a. Blessings—1 Chron 13: 14 “the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-
Edom in his house for three months, and the Lord blessed his household and
everything he had”
b. Victory—Ps 149 says that the high praise of God in the mouths of the people
of God will bring victory in terms of binding the kings with fetters and their
nobles with shackles of iron.

Discussion questions:

a. How can we worship God 24/7 practically in our lives in the church or
individually?
Teacher’s notes: 24/7 sounds impossible. A lot of people will have that
mentality of separation between the secular and the spiritual. We are to
worship God even in our work. Most importantly, make corporate prayer your
priority, come for prayer meetings, develop a longing to seek the presence of
God.

b. What does it mean to offer our lives as a spiritual burnt offering? What
adjustments need to be made to enable you to do that?
Teacher’s notes: It means to be consumed by the fire of the Holy Spirit every
moment of our lives. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor,
serving the Lord.” Romans 12:11.

c. What does it mean to have the high praises in our mouths?

The Hebrew word for “high praise” sounds like tequila. It literally means to be
giddy with joy as with someone who is under the influence of alcohol. In I
Chron it says that David commanded the worshippers to sing joyful songs
before the tabernacle. Are you comfortable with that total abandonment in
worship.

d. What are some of the shackles in your lives and families that need to be
broken? Spend some time in worship and minister to each other.
