Bear Attack

We were just a few kilometers from Adventure Park, which scout camp in Hobble Creek
Canyon, Utah, America. I and my friends were really excited for this trip because it’s our first
scout camp. We got down from the bus, our scout leader called us for attendance and then
told us the basic precautions and what to do if a bear attacked. Then we started setting up our
tents and bonfire.
It got evening by the time we finished. The scout leader called us to sit around the bonfire
and started telling stories. I suddenly heard something snap. I looked behind and saw nothing.
I thought that I had mistaken it for the crackling sound of the fire. It was getting very late and
we all got into our tents.
“Help” cried the scout leader. The cry had awaken all of us from our sleep. We all rushed to
his tent and saw it in ruins. There were bear paws all around the tent. It was not hard to
deduce that a bear had attacked him and dragged him into the forest. We were all petrified by
the sight and it took some time for us to steady our nerves. We decided to notify the
authorities as fast as possible. There was about ten of us. We took our flashlights started
walking towards the help center. We walked slowly as we did not want to attract any
unwanted attention.
We were halfway there when suddenly bear jumped at us. I told my friends to get to the
authorities while I and two other distracted it. We three picked up stones and threw at it. It
got raged and started chasing after me. I ran for my life and soon tripped on a stone and fell
down. The bear was over me and I froze and started remembering my family, I knew I was
going to die but was happy that at least I saved my friends. I closed my eyes and was
prepared to die.
“Bang”, I jumped to my feet as I heard it and saw two forest officers standing in front of me
and the bear dead beside me. The officers took me to the rest of my friends and we were all
sent home. Next morning I heard that our scout leader was found unconscious with minor
injuries and I was happy to know that he did not die.
