Table of Contents
Baseband RF Network Architecture............................................................................4-1
Operation and Maintenance .......................................................................................4-2

4.1 Baseband RF Network Architecture

The ZXSDR B8200 TL200 supports star or daisy-chain connections to RRUs. BBUs and
RRUs are connected by optical fibers.
l Star network architecture: each RRU is connected to the ZXSDR B8200 TL200
in point-to-point way, see Figure 4-1. In this way, the reliability is high, but more
transmission resources are used. Star network architecture applies to service areas
with a high subscriber density.

Figure 4-1 Star Network Architecture

l Daisy-chain network architecture: multiple RRUs are connected to a daisy chain, and
then connected to a BBU, see Figure 4-2. In this way, less transmission resources
are used, but the reliability is lower than that of star network architecture. Daisy-chain

network architecture applies to service areas where the subscribers are distributed in
a belt and the subscriber density is low.

Figure 4-2 Daisy-chain Network Architecture

4.2 Operation and Maintenance

The operation and maintenance of the ZXSDR B8200 TL200 consists of remote
maintenance and local maintenance.

Remote Maintenance
The EMS connects to and maintains BBUs through transmission networks, for example,
IP transmission networks, see Figure 4-3. One EMS can maintain multiple base stations
at the same time.

Figure 4-3 Remote Maintenance Way

Local Maintenance
Local maintenance (LMT): an LMT running on a PC directly connects to and maintains the
BBU through an Ethernet cable, see Figure 4-4. The LMT is used for maintaining a single
base station.

the following functions:
l SGW bearer service management
l Mobility management of UEs in the LTE_ACTIVE state
l Paging
l NAS signaling transmission
l S1 interface management
l Network sharing
l Roaming and region restriction
l NAS node selection
l Initial context establishment
S1 interfaces include control-plane S1-C interfaces and user-plane S1-U interfaces. S1-C

Chapter 5 Interfaces

Figure 5-2 S1-C Interface

Based on IP, the S1-C interface transmits signaling messages at the radio network layer
reliably.
The S1-C interface uses the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) at the layer
higher than the IP layer. SCTP inherits advantages of TCP. In addition, SCTP makes an
improvement in transmission reliability and security. The multi-stream property ensures
redundancy protection of the transmission-layer links. In addition, the design of SCTP
includes the resistance to attacks and the supporting of multihoming.

S1-U Interfaces
Figure 5-3 shows the S1-U interface protocol architecture.

ZXSDR B8200 TL200 Product Description

Figure 5-3 S1-U Interface

The S1-U interface protocol architecture is based on the GTP-U/UDP/IP protocol stack.
One of the advantages of the GTP-U protocol stack is that it is convenient to use the
internal tunnel identifier of the protocol. The transmission layer is identified with the GTP
tunnel end and IP address.

5.2.2 X2 Interfaces
An X2 interface is used to connect eNodeBs. The X2 interface supports the following
functions:
l Mobility management of the UE that is in connected state in the LTE system
à Context transmission between the source eNodeB and destination eNodeB
à User plane tunnel control between the source eNodeB and destination eNodeB
à Handover cancelled

l Load management
l Inter-cell interference coordination
l X2 interface management and error processing
l Tracing

X2 interfaces include X2-C interfaces and X2-U interfaces. X2-C interfaces are
control-plane interfaces connecting eNodeBs. X2-U interfaces are user-plane interfaces
connecting eNodeBs.
Figure 5-4 shows the X2-U interface protocol architecture.

ZXSDR B8200 TL200 Product Description

Error-proof Design
l Structure error-proof design: The physical structure of the shelf does not allow
boards to be inserted in reserve. The shelf structure ensures that the boards that are
installed are not mixed, avoiding the boards being incorrectly inserted or in reverse.
Components on the board are arranged in the same direction with location labels
and covers.
l Electric error-proofing design: The power input ports are designed with reverse
connection protection, which is implemented by the power module. The
power-on/power-off procedure of each module is designed in accordance with
MicroTCA standards. The power-on management system ensures that the power
of the relevant boards will not be switched on if boards in the CC and FS slots are
plugged or unplugged improperly, protecting boards from damage.

6.2 Software Reliability

Compliant With CMM Procedure Specifications
At different phases such as demand analysis, and system design, the software
development is compliant with CMM procedure specifications, enhancing software
reliability.

Considering Software Platform

l DSP support platform: The multi-core DSP is used as the baseband processing
unit. The general DSP baseband support platform resolves complicated lower-level
operations and provides a universal access interface to applications, ensuring that
upper-level applications migrate easily at different DSP platforms.
l CPU software platform: The CPU software platform is based on the universal SDR
software platform of ZTE Corporation. Software adaptations related to product
features and the development of new functional modules are performed on the
CPU software platform. The CPU software platform provides the universal process
scheduling management, communication interfaces, database operation interfaces,
and operation and maintenance for higher-level services.

Maintainability
The software or other components that need to be updated can be downloaded remotely.
All alarm information can be reported to the network management system through
the operation and maintenance channel. You can perform operating state query, fault
diagnosis, isolation, and other operations on the network management system.
