1.1 Product Positioning

With the multi-mode era coming, ZTE, which is dedicated to providing comprehensive
network solutions and delivering future-oriented quality networks for operators,
developed a ground breaking SDR unified platform with the essential feature supporting
multi-mode and multi-band radio access.
Based on this innovative SDR platform, ZTE promotes a series of base stations to meet
different scenario requirements, including indoor macro base stations, outdoor macro
base stations, distributed base stations, outdoor micro base stations, and mini base
stations.
These SDR-based series base stations aim at designing a unified network which can
bring a seamless experience to operators. In GSM, UMTS, LTE, NB-IoT or mixed
modes, it enables operators to save the CAPEX and OPEX significantly because they
only need to deploy one Uni-Radio Access Network, as compared with the independent
GSM, UMTS, LTE or NB-IoT network.
ZXSDR BS8900B (hereinafter referred to as BS8900B) is an outdoor macro base
station, providing an all-in-one solution for power supply, battery, and transmission
integration. It offers GSM/UMTS/LTE/NB-IoT multi-mode networking capability and
provides a future-proof solution for smooth evolution to Enhanced EDGE, HSPA+ and
LTE/NB-IoT.

Note
In this document, G is short for GSM, U is short for UMTS, L is short for LTE and N is
short for NB-IoT.

1 Product Positioning and Features

1.2 Product Features

The ZXSDR BS8900B has the following features:
 All-in-one solution in one rack, lowest OPEX
A single BS8900B rack contains two baseband units, seven RF units, a power
system (including power supply and battery) and reserved storage space for
transmission devices. The AC/DC power system has a high efficiency of 96% and
capacity of 200 A, sufficient to supply power to other equipment. It is a fully functional
outdoor base station solution. The front wiring design enables the installation against
the wall and convenient maintenance.Least footprint requirement relieves the
operator from bothering by the site acquisition problem.
 Flexible multi-band multi-mode networking, smooth evolution
The Baseband Unit (BBU) of the BS8900B supports multiple wireless access
technologies simultaneously, including GSM, UMTS, LTE and NB-IoT, which
totally share the common control function and transmission. It satisfies operators'
requirement for minimum hardware change by simply inserting dedicated baseband
processing boards.
The Radio System Unit (RSU) of the BS8900B is based on the software-defined
radio (SDR) technology. The GSM/UMTSRSU can support LTE/NB-IoT at the same
frequency band through software update only. Meanwhile, it supports multi-mode
at the same frequency band simultaneously. The SDR solutions from ZTE fulfill
operators' requirements of hybrid network deployment and long term evolution with
the lowest cost.
 Large capacity, easy expansion
The ZXSDR BS8900B accommodates two baseband units and seven multi-carrier
RSUs, including 1T2R and 2T4R RF modules. The 2T4R Radio Unit (RSU82) has
the capability to support 2 x 6 GSM TRXs or 2x6 NB carriers or 2 x 4 UMTS carriers
or 2 LTE 20MHz cell or multi-mode. It can also be connected to Remote Radio
Units (RRUs) to support more cells. Expansion is achieved through only software
configuration and minimal hardware change.
 RF modules with full operating bandwidth capability
To meet the growing demands for wide operating bandwidth, RF modules with
full operating bandwidth are released. The maximum operating bandwidth is 75
MHz for 1800 MHz band and 35 MHz for 900 MHz band. Because the frequency
spectrums become scarce, resources allocated to operators tend to be characterized
by fragmentation and large span. RF modules with full operating bandwidth
integrate more spectrum resources and help to decrease the hardware investment

exponentially. (This is the maximum bandwidth of the RF modules. Please take the
actual module as standard.)
 High PA efficiency, low power consumption
The PA achieves very high efficiency with ZTE's patent Doherty, Digital PreDistortion
(DPD) and Dynamic Power Trace (D-PT) technologies. The PA power supply voltage
is dynamically adapted to the output power, reducing the power consumption of RUs.
The base station power consumption is greatly decreased with several other key
energy-saving features
 Adaptable to tough environments
The outdoor macro BTS BS8900B adopts a hermetic rack. It is water proof, dust
proof, EMC compatible to suit the outdoor application scenarios. The BS8900B
provides IP55 protection capability, –40°C to 55°C operating temperature, and C-
class lightning protection. The BS8900B can provide a fast-deployment, low-cost and
reserved equipment's storage space solution in tough environments.
