RULES AND GUIDELINES

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Storytelling is an effective teaching and learning activity to help

improve the standard of English among pupils.
1.2 The Storytelling Activity / Competition will be carried out at school
district / division state and national levels.

2.0 OBJECTIVES

2.1 To enhance pupils! confidence in using English.

2.2 To give pupils the opportunity to use English in an interesting authentic

and creative manner.

2." To enhance and improve listening and spea#ing s#ills.

2.$ To instill pupils! interest in reading and writing in English.

3.0 RULES AND REGULATIONS

".1. The competition is open to all government%aided schools. &nly ONE 

contestant will represent his / her state at the national level.

".2 The competition is divided into two sections'

Secti! 2 ' )mpromptu

"." *or Section 1 contestants are to observe the following rules'

".".1 Stories presented can be authentic adapted or originally written.

".".2 Stories presented

".$ *or Section 2 contestants are to observe the following rules'

".$.1 Each contestant pic#s an envelope containing a card.

".$.2 After "0 seconds contestants tell their $t%# based on a word

noun/ad-ective or  picture !e ob-ect on the chosen card.
".$." Stories told in Section 2 should not be a repetition or
reproduction of any story presented in Section 1. Contestants
will be dis,ualified if they do so.

".$.$ Any inclusion of singing should enhance and not dominate the
presentation.

".$.+ Time allocated to present the impromptu story is 2 t 3 minutes.

The bell will be rung at the " rd  minute. ar#s will be deducted
thereafter.

".+ )nfringement

".+.1 A ma3imum of 10 mar#s will be deducted if a contestant'

".+.1.1 touches on sensitive issues such as race religion

".+.1.2 presents a story below the stipulated time 4 2 mar#s
for every minute
".+.1." presents a story above the stipulated time 4 2 mar#s
for every minute

". A contestant will be dis,ualified if'

"..1 he / she reads or refers to notes / reading materials.

"..2 he / she is prompted by another person.

".." he / she repeats any story presented in Section 1 during the

impromptu session.

'.0 ADJUDICATION

$.1 A panel of at least " or + -udges will be appointed for all the rounds at
all levels. The competition at the national level will be -udged by a
panel of + -udges appointed by the 6ivision of Co%curriculum and Arts
inistry of Education.

+.1 (la,ues and certificates of achievement will be awarded to the winning

teams.

+.2 Certificates of participation will be awarded to all participating teams.

• The winners from the previous year may participate in the current year but
the te3t and presentation must not be an e3act replica.

• This concept paper is valid until further notification or revision from the
inistry of Education and can be used at all levels for competitions organi5ed
by the inistry.
