ABSTRACT

Pneumonia not merely improving mortality of child under five years, if living on even also, will
influence the quality of human resource. This research to know relation of born body weight,
nutritional status, and A vitamin intake with risk the occurence of pneumonia at child under
five years. Research done in Bandung at Pagarsih, Pasirkaliki, and Garuda Community
Health Centre. Design is case control. Primary data of sample identity, habitual of smoke
family member obtained with interview use questionnaire. For the data of the condition of
house physical (ventilation, density of dwelling, fuel type of cook, to be obtained with
observation. Secondary data were occurence of pneumonia, obtained from medical record in
Community Health Centre. Born body weight data of child obtained from letter of birth of
child. Body weight data of child were obtained from the register book of weighing in
posyandu. Intake of A vitamin obtained by using Semi Quantitative Food Frequency
Questionnaire. Analysis data use odds ratio (OR) by 95% CI and continued with logistic
regresion anaysis. The result of research known the variable of born body weight and intake
of A vitamin correlate significant with pneumonia risk. But dominant factor related to
pneumonia risk at child under five years is A vitamin intake, with OR 3,475 (95% CI = 1,520 ;
7,943). Accomplishment of requirement of A vitamin at child under five years coming to
everyday natural food-stuff remain to have to become especial attention, though child have
got A vitamin capsule supplement.
