TRADITIONAL SET-UP
In the first image, we can observe the phrase “Sage on the Stage.” It gives an idea that the
image portrays the traditional educational system. “Sage on the Stage” is also known as
Teacher-centered method where the teachers are the primary authority figure. In this learning
process, teachers are considered the experts who gives all the knowledge and transmit it to its
students. On the other hand, students passively receives knowledge from the teachers through
lectures and discussions.
Upon observation, this is the common stereotyped manner of learning that we all know. This is
also known as face-to-face class there the physical presence of teacher is present whereas the
primary goal is to fill the students with knowledge. In this set-up, learning occurs in a specific
and limited time. Also, the students or learners are homogenous group of people of the same
age and course group. In traditional set-up, classroom is considered the most important space
of learning. Usually, students are isolated and constricting their interactions only in the
educational environment they are in. Traditional educators viewed classroom as the convenient
environment to disseminate information which contradicts the view of modern set-up of
worldwide view of learning.
Lastly, we can observe the general prohibition sign which indicates that the traditional set up
can not be conducted in schools as of this period due to global pandemic that we are
experiencing right now.
MODERN SET-UP
In the second image, we can notice different persons which means that this is a learning for all
ages, nationality, professions, and even PWD’s because they are more exposed to worldview of
learning.
Furthermore, we can notice the holding of hands of each person. This holding of hands shows
connection. This connection enables each person to consider the needs of others, assist others
in overcoming their personal difficulties, create warm and lasting relationships with chosen
friends, to nurture and allow to be nurtured, to understand oneself, and guide the future
generations in the correct ways of living. In this kind of learning, the learners were never meant
to live alone. The idea that life is meant to be depending to no one is wrong and incorrect.
People need someone to depend on. The new model of learning is designed to work in groups,
in order to build together, to create communities, to help one another in times of crisis and
difficulties, to find common purpose, and to help those entering and also exiting in life.
In conclusion, the new modern learning set-up is synchronous and flexible. The learning process
takes anytime and anywhere. This model of learning is for heterogeneous groups.
Heterogeneous groups in educational settings include students from a wide range of
instructional levels. The practice of assigning mixed groups of students to shared classrooms
stems from the education percept that positive interdependence develops when students of
varying achievement work together and help each other reach educational goals. Learners in
heterogeneous groups of varying abilities are grouped together, usually randomly.
