INSIGHT PAPER on “The Prosecutor”

The position of Regional State Prosecutor is a bit risky due to the recent
unfortunate death of few judges, but quite attractive in terms of salary grade. The
webinar with Prosecutor Fernando Gubalane truly inspired us, future lawyers, especially
those who aimed to be a Regional Prosecutor one day. During his presentation, he
emphasized that the prosecutor must seek justice, not merely to convict.

Despite his busy schedule, the RSP must empower every private and public
prosecutor to use their best judgment in every case they handle, keeping defendants
out of the criminal justice system a priority. Every prosecutor must ensure that society
can rely on equal justice for all that is being carried out by the courts. For RSP
Gubalane, the best decisions foresee what would affect our communities most
positively. As of the moment, their office has vacancies and needs a hand in handling
the speedy and fair disposition of cases. He hoped that one day; he would welcome us
as part of this prestigious law agency of the government.

There is also a strong perception that prosecutors assess individual success in

terms of trial experience. RSP note that trials, convictions, and sentences are unrelated
to how they evaluate their success; however, several notes that other prosecutors or
attorneys rely on such measures to evaluate performance. Others also note that trial
rates remain a measure used to determine promotions in the office. But the most
important thing to remember is that how you deal with clients. It is the best determinant
of how well you perform your duty as a litigant. People will always measure your name
by your reputation. Hence, if you intend to be one of those corrupt attorneys in the
future, then you would less likely get the trust of clients. As future officers of the court,
we are bound to serve our clients with a heart.
