BIBLIOGRAPHY OF THE
LAW OF OUTER SPACE

Introduction

This Bibliography, prepared by the Space Law and Activities Commit?

tee of the Section of Science and Technology,* seeks to present lawyers,
scholars and other interested persons with a comprehensive listing of
sources of information and analysis in the growing area of law relating
to the exploration and use of outer space. That the field is in many ways
not as fully developed as other, more "earth-bound" subjects is hardly
surprising since manned spaceflight is only a quarter-century old. None?
theless, it is diverse, as a review of this bibliography will show.
To the extent that the outline providing the framework for the
Bibliography may seem arbitrary, the arbitrariness reflects that diversity
and the newness and vastness of the field. We trust that users of this
bibliography will agree with us that the outline represents a viable means
of organizing the available material.
The research for this bibliography has encompassed not only tra?
ditional sources, such as the Index to Legal Periodicals, but also
sources with which many lawyers are less familiar and to which they may
have less access, such as computer databases. Yet, the law of outer space
is not a well-defined discipline and it is entirely possible that we have

*In addition to the authors whose names appear at the end of this Introduc?
tion, the Committee wishes to express its appreciation to Jeffery Jay Blatt, Harlan
Domber, Tara Brockway Jackson, Ellen Klein and Brent J. Pasternak who helped
in the editing of this Bibliography.
