Frock: Length 17in., width round underarm 20in., sleeve seam 3in.
Matinee jacket: Length 10in., width round underarm 22in.; sleeve seam 5in.
Yarn: 9 balls Woolworths Nylo baby wool: Dress 4, coat 3, bonnet and bootees 2
Needles: No. 12 and 10 needles and crochet hook
Gauge: 32 sts = 10 cm

FROCK
FRONT
Work st-st. for 2in. Work patt. 3 times. Work st-st. for lin. Work patt. twice. Work st-st. until
skirt measures l0in., finish on wrong side of work. Dec. for waist as follows:
Next Row: K 2 tog. all along row to last st., k 1 (80 sts.).
Change to No. 12 needles. Work k 1, p 1, rib for 4 rows. Change to No. 10 needles.
Next Row: Cast off 3 sts., V 22, patt. over next 19 sts., k to end of row.
Next Row: Cast off 3 sts., purl to end of row.
Cont. in this way, having 19 sts. in centre in patt. with 22 sts. each side in st-st. until there are
six complete patterns.
Next Row: Work over 26 sts., cast off next 11 sts., work to end of row. On last 26 sts. work
in st-st., dec. once at neck edge every row until 21 sts. rem. Work 2 rows without shaping and
cast off. Join wool to other side of neck and work to correspond.
BACK
Make exactly as for front until ribbing at waist is complete. Divide sts. in half and work
straight up until armholes match front. Cast off all sts. each side.
SLEEVES
Next Row: K 2, inc. once in each of the next 35 sts., k 3 (75 sts.).
Change to No. 10 needles. Purl one row, then work patt. 4 times. Still keeping to patt., cast
off 2 sts. at beg. of every row for 3 more patts. Cast off all sts.
TO MAKE UP
Join shoulder, side, and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves seam to seam, easing any fullness at top
of sleeve. Work 2 rows of d.c. down back opening, making 4 loops on right side. Sew on
buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Finish neck and lower edge of frock with 1 row of
d.c. and 1 row of picot. Press carefully. Sew a rosette of ribbon to front left-hand side of
frock.
MATINEE JACKET
BACK
With No. 10 needles, cast on 89 sts. Work patt. 14 times. Change to No. 12 needles and work
patt. 7 times more. Cast off.
RIGHT FRONT
With No. 10 needles, cast on 53 sts. Work patt., keeping 6 sts. at front edge in g-st. for
border. When 14 patts. have been worked, change to No. 12 needles. Work patt. 5 times, and
on next row cast off 12 sts. at neck edge, k 2 tog. at same edge every row until 32 sts. rem.
When 7 patts. have been worked on the No. 12 needles, cast off all sts.
LEFT FRONT
SLEEVES
Next Row: K, inc. once in every st. until there are 61 sts. Purl 1 row.
TO MAKE UP
Join shoulder seams. Fold sleeve in half, pin centre of sleeve to shoulder seam, sew in
sleeves. Join sleeve and side seams in one.
With No. 12 needles and RS facing, pick up 83 sts. round neck, work g-st. for 3 rows.
Finish neck and lower edge of jacket with 1 row d.c. and 1 row of picot. Thread ribbon
through holes at neck.
BONNET
With No. 10 needles, cast on 89 sts. Work patt. 4 times. Work 8 rows of st-st. Work patt.
twice, work 6 rows of st-st., dec. once at end of last row (88 sts.).
Break off a length of wool, thread a darning needle, gather up rem. sts., and sew up back
seam. Finish with 1 row of d.c. all round bonnet, then 1 row of picot. Sew on ribbons.
BOOTEES
1st Row: K 1, k twice into next st., k 16, k twice into next st., k 1.
3rd Row: K 1, k twice into next st., k 18, k twice into next st., k 1. K twice into next st., k 18,
k twice into next St., k 1.
Cont. knitting 2 more sts. between the incr in the odd rows until the 11 th row is reached.
11th Row: K 1, k twice into next st., k 26, k twice into next st., k 1, k twice into next St., k
26, k twice into next st, k 1 (63 sts.).
Next Row: K 38, turn, sl. 1, p 11, p 2 tog., turn, * k 5, m 1, k 2 tog. t.b.1., k 5, k 2 tog., turn,
sl. 1, p 11, p 2 tog., turn.
