Performing Post Foot Spa Activity!

What I Need to Know

The lesson deals with the sanitation and storage of tools and
equipment, assessment of the treatment outcome, application of moisturizer,
cleaning of the workstation and proper disposal of waste.
This will help learners apply good practices in the workplace which will
help them pursuing their career not only Beauty Care as a business but for
personal hygiene.
After learning this module, you will gain expertise that will lead you to
next level of competencies of this course.
At the end of this module, learners should be able to:

Before you start exploring this module, let us see your prior knowledge
on the sanitation practices after rendering a foot spa.
Directions: On the blank provided before the number, write TRUE if the statement

What is It

In the previous activity, you have learned on the advantages of


disinfecting and sanitizing tools and equipment in performing foot spa
activity.

Disinfecting process of destroying, neutralizing or preventing the


growth of disease carrying microorganisms.
Disinfection of the foot spa tools and equipment has been discuss and
sensationalize in the media for good reason. There are specific area, criteria
and steps that must be follow exactly to ensure proper disinfection and
infection control.
The salon should always appear neat, tidy and safe. The waiting area
should be cleaned and well taken care of. The treatment area should be
freshly sanitized and operators should clean it as they go. The salon and
individual technician bear the responsibility for ensuring that proper
disinfection occurs and that proper procedure are followed.
All non- disposable instrument used in the service must be sterilized and
placed inside the cabinet sanitizer. All disposable items should be
immediately discarded and new ones are taken out for the next treatment.

Why do you need to disinfect foot spa tools and equipment?


1. To avoid microbial infection
2. To avoid injury
3. Keep the tools and equipment in its operational state.
4. To promote healthy practices in the workplace.
5. To protect employees and clients from different hazards that may occur
inside the workplace.

How to disinfect foot spa:

1. After each client drain the water from the foot spa
2. Clean the surface of the foot spa with a suitable cleaning agent, warm
or hot water and srubbing, brush, then rinse.
3. After disinfection, wipe the foot spa until dry using a clean lint free cloth
4. Store the foot spa in a clean, dry and dust free environment.

How to store tools and equipment properly?


1. Disinfect foot basin after each use with the bleach solution.
2. Use boiling method to disinfect all metal implements.
3. Store sterilize in an airtight zipper bag to keep them from being expose
to dirt and bacteria.
4. Be sure tools to completely dry before storing them.
5. Inspect tools and equipment regularly to identify defective ones to
repair, replacement or condemnation.

Steps on how to sanitize and dispose waste properly :


1. Tools which are made of plastic should be clean and sanitize properly
for the next client.
2. Foot spa machines must be flush with a solution of about 5% bleach.
3. Metal tools must be sterilize following proper sterilization techniques.
4. Waste material should be dispose properly in enclosed waste bin fitted
with polythene bag.
5. Contaminated waste should be dispose of, following the right
procedure prescribed by local authorities.
6. Label the container as hazardous waste and also include the
accumulation date.
