Report on Visiting Disadvantaged Families

OBJECTIVES:
This Report has been prepared with a view to realizing the life of poverty-stricken people,
identifying some major problems, motivating them, improve awareness, informing Upazila
Nirbahi Officer of their condition and ultimately trying to solve this problem.

The objectives of the work under this Module include are-

• To identify one disadvantaged family from the study area (poorest of the poor);
• To identify and prioritize their social problems;
• To solve some prioritized problems instantly;
• To motivate and improve awareness of self-defense;
• To identify activities taken under Social Safety Net Programmes;
• Attempting to solve some of the problems, if not all.

MD. HANIF HOSSEN’S LIFE:

Md. Hanif Hossen is a poverty-stricken man living in remote Aishrabari village of kalihati
Upazila under the district Tangail. His age is around 45 years. He is currently a landless &

Helpless man who gets no one to support him. His one daughter is married. He leads his life
with begging. But his very little income is not sufficient for his poor family having four members
including his parents. He is currently living in a abandon room temporarily. He expresses his will
to continue a Grocery store for his better living and some support so that he has a permanent
living place.

Problems Identified:

1. He is a patient of chronic respiratory diseases so he cannot do any heavy physical work.


2. Financial problems. Her monthly income is barely 4500 to 5000 BDT which is
insufficient to provide himself including his family members with food and clothing.
3. He sometimes passes her days without meals.
4. He doesn’t have a permanent dwelling place.

Challenges to solve the problems:

 Poverty is a vicious cycle and it is not possible to eradicate it in a very short period.
 Lack of education is a major challenge.
 Local people don’t want to lend him money.
 He does not have social security as she has no family now.

Recommendations

Md. Hanif Hossen is interested in Grocery store for his earning. he should be brought under
some social safety net program from the Department of Social Welfare, but the urgent need of
his funding for build Grocery store and a living place under ‘Ashrayan Prakalpa.’
