Topic misinformation

This year, humanity faced a lot of challenges. From the forest fires experienced in different countries to
the coronavirus COVID-19 that is still existent to this day, affecting all kinds of institutions, business and
economy included. The humans, with the aid of technology, find different alternatives to accomplish all the
tasks given to them and catch up to the news from in and out of their country using different social media
platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

The technology is a big help to professionals, however, there are many misleading information and
articles that are unintentionally or deliberately spread online, sometimes with an intention to bait and
make people fall into making an illegitimate transaction with them. Students nowadays also use different
online platforms to be updated with the news and trends happening in their community. Misinformation
can influence the young and adult readers negatively. A vast number of people now engage and shop in
online shopping platforms like Shoppee and Lazada. Misinformation, in cases like these, may cause the
buyers to be scammed and buy products that contains defects, which will result to it not being beneficial
to them, wasting all their time and money. Knowing what is real from not is essential for people today now
that they are clouded with lots of data, information, and wrong information disguised as real ones.
According to Statista, 74 percent of people in the world have claimed that they had seen 'fake news' or
misinformation. This is alarming, considering the large number of people crossing different misleading
articles that may cause them to be misguided and misinformed. With the wide capability of the internet to
spread information and journal publications are sometimes giving misleading information to the people,
students are highly being victimized by misinformation and fake news.

The purpose of this seminar is to provide students the knowledge of fact-checking, tell apart between
facts and opinions, the importance of knowing credible sources, and applies these skills in real life. We
also aim to raise awareness about fake news and how to deal with it. As the students are the future of our
generation, this seminar would shape them into a person who can distinguish between what is real and
what is false and took this knowledge to prosper in our society as an instrument to guide other people
about getting misinformation.
