Game rules

At midnight, the clock in the haunted tower rings out twelve times. At this signal the
young ghosts take over the tower. There are 8 families of ghosts; each family of three
wears a different colored stocking cap. Once in the tower, the ghosts begin their party.
They sneak up and down the spiraling staircase and through the many rooms, using the
trapdoors and hidden entrances to secret passages. They hide in old closets and dark
corners. If you enter the tower after midnight you can get quite a scare- but the ghosts
are really friendly creatures who are just having fun!

Object of the game

When playing The Haunted Clock Tower, players do not compete to win, but work
together to help the ghosts reach the clock tower by midnight. If all the ghosts get there
in time, the party can begin and the game is won.

Before you begin

Attach the clock hands to the clock tower of the game board. Set this clock to 10 o’clock.

Place the game board in the center of the play area. Shuffle the ghost cards and place
them around the perimeter of the game board - the pictures of the little ghosts are turned
down and the sides with the stars are face up.

If you play the game with younger children, place the cards in straight order around the
game board. This is easier for beginners. If you play the game with older children, you
can make it more challenging by scattering the cards around the game board as shown on
the box bottom.
Playing the game

The youngest player may begin. On your turn, choose a card and turn it over to reveal the
ghost to all players. The next player (the player on your left) then turns another card over
and lets all players see the card.

1. If the cards are different in color, turn both cards back over again and move the
hand of the clock forward five minutes. The next 2 players start the search again
by choosing cards and turning them over, hoping they will match.

2. If both cards are the same color, the third player turns over a card of his/her
choice.

If all 3 cards are the same color, these 3 little ghosts wake up and are ready to haunt the
tower. That is, these 3 cards are put back in the box. If all 3 cards are not the same color,
they must be turned over again and a player advances the clock 5 minutes

The next player starts the search procedure anew by turning over a card of his/her choice.
The following players repeat the procedures described above in 1 & 2.

This means:

- When cards match in color the clock remains the same.

- When cards don’t match in color, they must be turned over again and the
clock is moved forward 5 minutes. The next player then starts the search
procedure anew.

Note:
You should try to remember the cards which have already been turned over, so you can
match the color of the newly turned over cards more easily. When two cards of the same
color have been turned over and you know where the third card of the same color is, you
let out a ghostly cry, turn over the card and put the little ghosts back in the box.

End of the game

If all the ghosts are in the tower by the stroke of midnight, the game is won! The little
ghosts can then get busy haunting the tower. If you want to join them get some old bed
sheets and change yourselves into little ghosts or draw yourselves some little ghosts,
color them and cut them out.

If all the ghosts do not reach the clock tower by midnight, the game is lost. The only
thing left for the players to do then is to start all over again. When beginning a new
game, take into account your experience and set the clock accordingly. If you are new at
the game, or have lost a lot of games in the past, set the clock earlier than 10 o’clock, so
you have more time to get the ghosts to the tower. And, of course, when you become
experienced give yourselves less time by setting the clock for a time closer to midnight.
