The KKK and the Kartilya ng Katipunan

Emilio Jacinto was considered as one of the greatest military genius during his time. He
became Bonifacio's trusted friend and adviser. He was born on December 15,1875 at Trozo,
Manila. His parents were Mariano Jacinto and Josefa Dizon. Emilio Aguinaldo was only 19
years old when he joined the Katipunan. He was known as the "Brains of the Katipunan" when
it comes to military matters.

Katipunan became a national aspiration made flesh. It caught the passion of ordinary people,
willing to give their lives and surmount the dread of reprisals; believing that worse destiny
awaited their families if they did not stand up to face their oppressors. It was a secret society that
had a proper hierarchy composed of a supreme council and local councils, and a ritual of
membership often mistaken for Masonry. Moreover, it had an ideology embodied in its "Ang
Kartilya ng Katipunan", authored by Emilio Jacinto. Kartilya was the one used by the
Katipuneros as their manual in fighting against the colonizers. It contained the constitution and
by-laws of the Katipunan.

The Kartilya ng Katipunan was the moral and intellectual foundation used to guide the
Katipuneros and lays out the guidelines and principles that needed to be obeyed upon joining the
secret society. It is one of the few recorded files of the Philippine Revolution that survived today,
and hence provides a perspective to modern generations on how this code contributed to
understanding our history and how itshaped the present.

Kartilya ng Katipunan composed of lessons that serves as the Katipunero's guide in living
with morals and proper values. It was like a code of conduct that indicates how to be a true
Filipino in words and in action. I believe that this Kartilya ng Katipunan shows the path on how
to live a meaningful life for every Filipino. Each lesson is unique in such a way that it tackle
different aspects of persons life. Many of us may have different explanation and understanding
about it but it is appropriate to have a better understanding or explanation to its contents.

There’s much to learn from our national heroes. The tales in their trials and tribulations are
wealthy with lessons about hardship, sacrifice, struggle, resistance and overcoming massive
odds. These individual people inspiring lives, and brought glory to our country while putting
their lives on the line.
