Business Communication

Q 1: Are communication skills acquired by nature or by nurture? Explain.

We are born with little and unpolished communication abilities, but they are within us
and like any other, they can be improved or developed over time, with practice. Just as we go
to the gym to exercise our muscles, we can exercise our soft skills. Learning to listen more
effectively and then practicing that skill will improve our abilities as a communicator.
Becoming more aware of how our reactions change in response to different situations will
help us to manage our emotional reaction to them, and in time, will allow us to reduce stress
and conflict. On the other hand, not exercising these skills will leave them undeveloped. As
we become more self-aware of how we are acting and/or reacting, we can modify our
behavior, and increase the effectiveness of our communication.
The abilities to listen, speak, read, and write efficiently are not inborn, you can learn it
and then improve it over time. It refers to something that you learn and develop and nurture is
what has born with you.

Q 2: Briefly define and explain the communication process in your own

language with the help of your own visual aids?
Definition:
The term communication is derived from the Latin word “Communis” which means
to share. The Communication is a two-way process wherein the message in the form of ideas,
thoughts, feelings, opinions is transmitted between two or more persons with the intent of
creating a shared understanding through a selected channel by overcoming barriers that affect
its pace and ability to influence.
Effective communication is when the message conveyed by the sender is understood
by the receiver in exactly the same way as it was intended.
Communication Process:
The process of communication is a cyclic one as it begins with the sender and ends
with the sender in the form of feedback. It takes place upward, downward and laterally
throughout the organization. Communication process consists of certain steps where each
step constitutes the essential of an effective communication. Seven major elements of
successful communication process are:
 Sender
 Idea
 Encoding
 Communication Channel
 Receiver
 Decoding
 Feedback

Visual aids are an important part of presentation. Visual communication is the practice of
graphically representing information to efficiently, effectively create meaning. There are
many types of content in the realm of visual communication, with examples including
infographics, interactive content, motion graphics, and more.
There is a reason why people say that a picture tells a thousand words. Just take the
example of the cricket match bar charts, one by looking at it can easy understand and explain
the whole match to others. Charts and graphs are great visual aid for presenting statistics.
They can make data more approachable and presentable, and can also help to reveal the
stories behind data. Hanging posters up on your classroom walls will not only bring colors
into the environment, but they will also act as helpful resource for students.

Q 3: When verbal and nonverbal messages conflict, what receivers are

more likely to believe? Give an original example.
The key to success in both personal and professional relationships lies in your ability
to communicate well, it’s not the words that you use but your nonverbal cues or “body
language” that speak the loudest. Body language is the use of physical behavior, expressions,
and mannerisms to communicate nonverbally, often done instinctively rather than
consciously.
When there is conflict between verbal and nonverbal messages, more meaning comes
through nonverbal communication because it is easy to understand. When two or more people
communicate most of their conversation should be put on nonverbal signals because it is easy
to fake words but not the nonverbal behavior. In short, one can lie with words, but not with
their bodies.
Example:
The Holy Quran in several cases refers for the tolerant and poor people, it is stated:
“You would know them by their appearance”
and says about the hypocrites:
“and you will know them by the tone of their speech”.
Other examples include the smile you gave when you meet someone. Your smile conveys
friendliness, acceptance and openness.

good communication skills, and why is it difficult or impossible to do
without help?

Good communication skills are very difficult or impossible to do without help

because everybody has their own way of communicating, some peoples have good skills
while majority don't have skills due to lack of confidence. Therefor when they say one thing
the other person hears something completely different.
