Mac King Meets Buster Brown

Introduction
For some reason I have always liked the idea of doing tricks with
articles of clothing which I am wearing. I am especially fond of shoes.
The title explains the effect of this one. Unless you’re under 50 years
old. Buster Brown was a comic strip character in the early 1900s who
became the mascot for the Brown Shoe Company in 1904. I know,
fascinating. Any-who, a card is selected, signed, and returned to the
deck. Your right hand removes your shoe. Your left hand is shown
empty and reaches into the shoe and withdraws a card. It is revealed
to be the signed selection.

Preparation
Get a deck of cards, a marking pen, and make sure you can remove
your right shoe without struggling.

Routine
Have a card selected and signed on the face. Take the card from the
spectator and hold it so that it is obvious that you can not
see its face. Insert the card into the deck and execute
LePaul’s Diagonal Left Hand Palm. Actually, any move
which leaves you with the card palmed face inward in
your left hand is okay. Give the deck to the spectator
with your left hand, but don’t flash the card you are
concealing.
Using both hands, pull up your right pant leg and

direct attention to your right shoe. See figure one.
Bend your right leg, bringing your right foot up
approximately even with your left knee.
Your left hand (with its card concealed) grasps your
right shoe across the instep and pulls the shoe off.
You will be slightly bent over at this point. Straighten
up and hold the shoe with its opening hidden from
the audience’s view. Hold your right hand up with its Figure One

palm toward the audience so that it can be seen empty.
See figure two.
Keep the opening of the shoe
tilted slightly out of the
audience’s sight as your right
hand apparently enters your
shoe. Actually, only your right
fingers enter the shoe. Your right
Figure Two thumb goes outside the shoe
between your left palm and the card
concealed there. See figure three.
Your right hand withdraws from the shoe Figure Three
and the selected card comes with it.
Apparently the card comes from out of the shoe. See
figure four. Turn over the card to show it is the signed
selection.

Comments
Actually my preferred palm for this trick is the Marlo Direct Palm,
but, as I said, any palm which leaves the card back-out in your left
hand is good (e.g. Erdnase Diagonal Palm Shift). Don’t let the use
of a palm cause you to pass up this trick. Just practice some and
then find someone to try it on. Don’t be discouraged if you get
caught. Keep working on it. Sooner than you think you will have a
powerful new weapon in your arsenal.
