LESSON 4, CHAPTER 1

TEST YOUR UNDERSTANDING:

1. Yes. It is called Transcendent Values.
2. It means that it isn’t changed no matter how much time passes, in what space and to
whom.
3. I believe that values should be taught because most of the time when we don’t teach good
values to our children, they turn into a bad leaf. They’ll get influenced easily by others.
Especially those who have bad vices.
4. The 3 dimensions of value and value information are:
1. Cognitive Dimension – We understand and recognize the values that we want to
acquire and why we have such values. This is the heart of conversation and Values
information.
2. Affective Domain of Objectives – It's not enough to just know what honesty is or why
one should be honest. Here in this dimension we need to recognize that being honest isn’t
enough. You also need to recognize why someone should be honest.
3. Behavioral Dimension – here, we talk about living your life with real value of honesty.
5. The training consists of three things: 1.) Formation of ideas
2.) Judgement and 3.) reasoning.
6. The effect of good habit strengthens you to live by the right values and live a life of
abundance and joy. While a vicious life on the other hand leads you to perdition and
misery.
7. The lowest value in Scheler’s value hierarchy are the Pleasure Values. The highest is the
Values of the Holy.
8. Based on Scheler’s value hierarchy, a life well lived is something that is filled with
belief, adoration and bliss.
9. A value is really your value if it’s: 1.) Freely chosen. 2.) Chosen among alternatives. 3.)
Chosen after due reflection. 4.) prized and cherished. 5.) publicly affirmed. 6.)
Incorporated into actual behavior and 7.) acted upon repeatedly in one’s life.
FOR RESEARCH

1. I believe that the Filipino values that pose obstacles in my value formation are the Human
activities that we have. Like festivities. I feel like having so many of them is draining.
They are fun, but there are times I wish I don’t have to deal with just things.
2. I believe the reason why new teachers lack emotional stability is the fact that they are
expected to work and do a lot of things with such little pay. Most of them are emotionally
and physically drained as they are overworked in general. The same thing for the older
teachers. Teachers are taken for granted not only by the people, but also by the
government.
