This shows the changes in temperature of the water and metal:

Discussion:
When the same amount of heat is transferred to two different objects, there is an increase in
internal energy. The effect of heat transfer on temperature depends on the amount of heat
energy transferred, the mass of the object and the specific heat capacity of the material of
which the material involved is made Therefore, the specific heat capacity of a substance is the
amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1Kg of the substance by 1 kelvin .Its si
unit is J kg-1 K-1.
While performing this experiment, a few assumptions were made such as;only very
negligible transfer of energy to the walls of the Styrofoam cup and that having a higher
specific heat capacity meant that the object will be a better conductor of heat.
After completing the experiment, the group questioned why the metal was shaken and
quickly transferred to the Styrofoam cup? It was shaken so that…and then it was
immediately transferred into the cup.the metal will no longer be at the temperature of
boiling water. after it was then stirred so that the heat from the metal would have been
evenly distributed into the water.

Source of error:
Fans affected the heat directed to the beaker

Precaution:
Ensure fans are off when using Bunsen burner.

Conclusion:
It can be concluded that the specific heat capacity is JK-1K-1.

Reflection:
in this experiment, I was able to determine the specific heat of the substance. The substance
was heated to a high temperature then placed into the cup containing a known quantity of
water at a lower temperature. Having measured the mass of the water in the cup, the
temperature of the water changed.
