Before & While Building
Your Website Checklist

THE 4 MUST-HAVE COMPONENTS

To building a site with Flothemes.

Domain Name - you can use the one you have, or if you need one - most hosting
providers can offer you one.

Hosting Provider - you need one. Period. And please don’t make this a decision
purely based on price. Your hosting dictates how your site works. Will it be slow?
Will it crash and have downtime often? Is it at high risk of getting hacked? These
are all very important questions. Here are 5 things to consider, when choosing a
hosting provider.

Word Press - you can download it for free from WordPress.org (please do not
confuse it with WordPress.com).

Theme by Flothemes - you’ve got this one, right? If not, choose your favorite
theme here.
The Installation Process

DIY (DO IT YOURSELF)

No need to get overwhelmed if you decided to build your new site on your own. We’ve
made the WordPress backend interactive and more simple to use. All themes released
since 2017 come with a drag and drop page builder, which makes tweaking layouts, colors,
fonts and icons - easy and intuitive.

Here’s a few more things to keep in mind:

Our documentation and tutorials will guide you through every step of the process.

Have a question or technical issues? Just submit a ticket here and our Support
team will help.

Working in Test Mode - if you have your current website on WordPress (including
ProPhoto), you can use our FloLaunch plugin and setup your new website in
test mode, without any downtime for your current site. Otherwise, you’ll need a
Maintenance plugin.

Switching from Squarespace, ProPhoto or any other WordPress theme? Check this.

Plugins - they help you extend the functionality and features of your website. Here
are the ones we recommend.
Site Speed & Image Optimization - Uploading unoptimized images (original or large
size) can harm your site’s loading speed, which in turn will impact your SEO, bounce
rate and overall user experience. Here’s a full guide on how to prepare images
before uploading them to your site.

Adding/Changing your Site Title and Tagline (they display when you share your site
online, as well as on Google search pages) - In your dashboard, go to Settings >>
General and you’ll find the fields for your site’s title and tagline.

Favicon - if you don’t know what a favicon is or how to upload your own custom one,
check this video and this post (for older Flo themes users). If you use one of our
newer themes (built on the advanced backend), you can upload a new favicon here:
Flotheme -> Introduction -> Optional Settings. Make sure your file is .ico format.
You can use Convertico to convert your .png to .ico file.

Multi-Lingual site - if you want to translate your website into a second, third
language, we recommend using the WPML plugin. Here’s a tutorial explaining how
to set it up and traskypnslate your pages.

Adding a shop to your website - if you want to create a shop, and sell products/
services on your site, you will need to install the WooCommerce plugin (which is
free). If you have an existing shop on a third party platform (shopify, shootproof,
pixieset, etc) you’ll just need to add a Shop button to your menu, and link it to your
external shop.

SEO - since SEO is a more complex, long term process, start with adding the Yoast
SEO plugin to your website, and setting it up correctly. We’ll talk more about SEO in
the second checklist.
