1. Discuss the development of human society. [10 points] *

The concept of survival among indigenous people can be traced back in the old
days when survival was primarily based on hunting and gathering for food. Next
phase is the pastoral age where they already learned to domesticate animals as
source of food. this is also the time they learned self expression such as pictures
drew in the cave walls, self-reliance and cooperation. Then they progressed into
horticultural communities. The major improvement is their use of metals and
technology. Also, in the modern age where they were able to utilize machineries to
lessen the labor.

2. What is the main reason why people fight for their land? Justify your answer.

The indigenous people fight for their land because it came from their
ancestors and it is sacred. They have strong believe that the their land is
connected to gods or deity that give them fruits or profits that they enjoy. It is
their home that they believe they have to take care of.

3. Compare and Contrast the Spanish law and the American law on the laws passed by
these 2 colonizers? [20 points] *

The land laws that were introduced by the Spanish colonizers were mostly
essentially contradicted and even denied customs and the use and ownerships. One of
those is the Maura Law where the untitled lands within a year will be owned or
revert back to the state. The same as the Maura Law, the non-registered lands in
the American law will also be declared to be owned and administered by the state,
or be owned by the public domain. There is also a law that gives Americans the
right to acquire public land for mining purposes.

1. How do the indigenous people regard their land? *

They regard their land as one of the most important thing to them. Their
lands are said to be sacred. Those came from their ancestors. It also has sacred
connections to the gods and goddess. They are the ones who take care of the "home"
where they can get their needs.

2. What is its importance in their lives? *

The ancestral lands has great importance to indigenous people. It has been
the center of their lives. They take care of their home as here is where they get
their needs. It is also act of respect to their ancestors, and gods and goddesses
that they believe in. These deity are whom they think as part of their good or
cursed life.
