1. The Key features of the modern construction industry its complexity, its uniqueness, the
many mobility of facilities, the organization, the finance, and management. First the
project is complex because there are many activities in construction, many of them
overlap others, an also is required a lot of people and equipment. Also, a modern
construction is unique due to different environments, weathers, and condition so that
make every construction have an individuality and some particularities. In addition,
another feature is that they have mobility of facilities that means that equipment and
workers are constantly changing their workspace. Also, there are multiplicity of agencies
involved in the process of construction, for instance land authorities, planning agencies,
fire department, etc. every project requires organization, a teamwork, union, and good
organization. As well as money, projects requires investments in equipment, overheads in
salaries, security deposits and many others financial activities. Lastly people who work in
this companies must be well trained personnel; they need to be autonomous in terms of
management

2. Duties of construction supervisor

 Instruct workers on what to
 Motivate works to accomplish the goals
 Encourage teamwork spirit
 Make sure that exists discipline in everyone
 Deal with the conflicts
 Promote a good relationship between the workers and the public
 Make sure plans and schedules are adhered to inspection and quality control
 Develops the workforce to meet new challenge
3. Quick Method of approximate
 Estimate is about finding the total units for constructing the structure such as the
area, volume and length, and then multiply the above by the cost of structure per
unit.
Estimating procedure.

 Items and units

Its based on the list of activities that need to be done

 Taking off dimensions

it is about the measurements which are taken off the drawing such as length, width, height,
area; the measurements depend upon the unit of measurement

 Materials rate
The material quality should be known by the estimator of the specifications. Also, it
include the cost of the materials and the transport of each one, the loading and unloading,
the storing and the wastage.
 Labor rate
Refers to the cost of labor and it depends upon the skill and size of labor, the calculation
can be made for the cost per head of each day and includes basic wage, paid holidays, for
inclement weather even the worker cant not work, overtime payment, sickness benefits,
insurance, also conveyance of labor and any other payment as per statutory requirement .
 Equipment rate
Can be calculated using the quantity of item and the output of equipment that is based on
the hours that can be put to work. It considered the cost of investment, depreciation, cost
of fuel, repairs, salaries of operators, insurance, and any other expenses.
 Project approval
Administrative approvals.
must be the first and is given by an authority at the user department. The owner of the
project must have the drawing and cost estimates when the proposals works department
are acceptable
Technical sanction.
When the user department gives his approval for the initial drawings and cost estimates
the public works department goes ahead to provide detailed design, drawing and cost
estimates

4.Factors involved in equipment selection.

Equipment productivity

This can be tricky; the best way is to use experience. It is important to determine primary and
seconds functions. The primary usage is what determines the size of the equipment. Also, it is
important to know in which conditions can the productivity is higher, and not only that but also its
relevant to find if there are legal restrictions for transporting large equipment. Besides to find the
perfect size not to small not to big

product features and attachments

Its important to evaluate the impact of the extra gadgets on the o performance of the equipment
some of them can improve the productivity of the machinery.
supplier support

it plays an important role the guidelines to use the equipment, the inspections of the equipment

cost

Its relevant to say that buying an equipment should not only be based on the cost, but also the
associated cost of operating the equipment should be considered.

Avantages

 Regular availability of Equipment

 Frequency of use is higher
 Equipment is likely to be well/maintained

Désavantages

 More expensive
 The money could be use in other investments
 Equipment may become obsolete when some new ones arrive at the market
 Temptation to use the equipment longer that it supposed which will cause lower
productivity
 Purchasing specialize equipment may close the door to other profitable opportunities
somewhere else which would require the use of different equipment
