FOURTH WEEK GUEST LECTURE TRAFFIC CHARACTERISTICS

My chosen traffic characteristic is SPEED. Speed is the distance traveled in a specified

time period. The 2 measures commonly used in traffic engineering are: Time-mean speed and
Space-mean speed. Time-mean speed can be calculated by averaging the speeds of all vehicles
in a time period, expressed in feet per second(ft/sec) or miles per hour(mi/hr). Space-mean
speed can be calculated by dividing the overall distance traveled by vehicles in a time period and
is also expressed in ft/sec or mi/hr.
