From the serviceability results of the above table, the effective depth in S9 governs the design
for all end and interior slab. C3&C4 governs the design for all cantilever slab.

ds max = 99.92 mm
dc max= 127.5 mm
Assuming Φ10mm reinforcement bars and 15mm concrete cover. Hence
Overall Depth for two way slab (Ds)=99.92+15+10/2=111.92mm, Use Ds=120mm
d=120-15-10/2=100mm (for shorter span reinforcement)
d=120-15-10-10/2=90mm (for longer span reinforcement)
Overall depth for cantilever slab (Dc) = 127.5+15+10/2+= 147.5 mm, Use Dc=150mm
dmin = 150-15-10/2=130mm

Moment adjustment
A. Support moment adjustment
Coefficient Method of Moment Distribution

For supports in which the slab is continuous there will be two different support moments. The
difference may be distributed between the panels on either side of support to equalize their
moments.

Two methods of different accuracy are given for treating the effect of this redistribution on
moments away from the support.

EBCS 2, 1995 article A.3.3.1 No.3 and 4

If the difference between initial support moments are less than 20%of the average moment

If the percentage difference between moments is >20% ,use moment distribution method

Moment adjustment
Check whether the support moment is greater than 20% or not.
Sample calculation

ΔMs = Mmax - Mmin =9.32-6.73=2.59 KNm

Adjustments of Field Moments

According to EBCS 2, 1995 article A.3.3.3 Method II

 In this method consideration of the effects of changes of support moments is limited to

the adjacent spans. Since no effects on neighboring support sections need to be
considered; only a simple balancing operation is required at each edge and no iterative
process is involved.
 The procedure for applying method II, is as follows
o Support and span moments are first calculated for individual panels by assuming
each panel to be fully loaded. This is done by using the coefficients given in Table
A-1 as described in Section A.3.2
o The unbalanced moment is distributed using the moment distribution method. The
relative stiffness of each panel shall be taken proportional to its gross moment of
inertia divided by the smaller span.
o If the support moment is decreased, the span moments mxf and myf are then
increased to allow for the changes of support moments. This increase is calculated
as being equal to the change of the support moment multiplied by the factors
given in Table A-2. If a support moment is increased, no adjustments shall be
made to the span moments.

3.7 Check Depth for Shear
Maximum shear force is obtained at support but design shear force is taken at “d” distance
from face of supporter. The maximum design shear is occurred at slab, S-7
Vsd= 1.3*15.49 + 1.6*4.83 =27.861KN
Shear resistance of concrete
The shear VC, carried by the concrete in members without significant axial force shall
be taken as;
Vc = 0.25*fctd*k1*k2*bw*d …………EBCS-2/1995 section 4.5.3.1 page 44.
k1 = 1+50ρ < 2
k2 = 1.6 - d > 1
fctd = fctk/γc ………….. ………EBCS-2/1995 section 2.4 page 10
ρ = Ast/bd where Ast =116.56mm2 , b=1000m & d = 100mm
Where As is the area of the tensile reinforcement anchored beyond the intersection of the
steel
and the line of a possible 450 cracking strength from the edge of section.
ρ = Ast/bd =116.56/(1000*100) = 0.001166
k1 = 1+50*0.001166 = 1.06 < 2 …………....OK!!!
k2 = 1.6 - 0.1 = 1.5 > 1 ……… ……OK!!!

fctd = fctk/γc = 1.5/1.5 = 1.0 N/mm2 ………EBCS-2/1995 section 2.4 & table 2.5
Vc = 0.25*fctd*k1*k2*bw*d =0.25*1*1.06*1.5*1000*100= 39.75KN
Vsd = 27.86KN < Vc = 39.75KN …………..…OK!!!
Therefore No shear reinforcement is required.

From the serviceability results of the above table, the effective depth in S9 governs the design
for all end and interior slab. C4 governs the design for all cantilever slab.

ds max = 99.92 mm
dc max= 92.08 mm
Assuming Φ10mm reinforcement bars and 15mm concrete cover. Hence
Overall Depth for two way slab (Ds)=99.92+15+10/2=111.92mm, Use Ds=120mm
d=120-15-10/2=100mm (for shorter span reinforcement)
d=120-15-10-10/2=90mm (for longer span reinforcement)
Overall depth for cantilever slab (Dc) = 92.08+15+10/2+= 112.08 mm, Use Dc=120mm
dmin = 120-15-10/2=100mm

For S-1
Mmax=9.14KN-m,
Mmin=8.36KN-m
ΔMs = Mmax - Mmin =9.14-8.36=0.78KN-m
ΔMs*100%/Mmax =0.78*100%/9.14 =8.53%
Therefore 8.43% < 20% use moment average method.

The maximum design shear is occurred at slab, S-6
Vsd= 1.3*17.81 + 1.6*5.55 =32.033KN
Shear resistance of concrete
The shear VC, carried by the concrete in members without significant axial force shall
be taken as;
Vc = 0.25*fctd*k1*k2*bw*d …………EBCS-2/1995 section 4.5.3.1 page 44.
k1 = 1+50ρ < 2
k2 = 1.6 - d > 1
fctd = fctk/γc ………….. ………EBCS-2/1995 section 2.4 page 10
ρ = Ast/bd where Ast =527mm2 , b=1000m & d = 100mm
Where As is the area of the tensile reinforcement anchored beyond the intersection of the
steel
and the line of a possible 450 cracking strength from the edge of section.
ρ = Ast/bd =527/(1000*100) = 0.00527
k1 = 1+50*0.00527 = 1.26 < 2 …………....OK!!!
k2 = 1.6 - 0.1 = 1.5 > 1 ……… ……OK!!!

fctd = fctk/γc = 1.5/1.5 = 1.0 N/mm2 ………EBCS-2/1995 section 2.4 & table 2.5
Vc = 0.25*fctd*k1*k2*bw*d =0.25*1*1.26*1.5*1000*100= 47.25KN
Vsd = 32.033KN < Vc = 47.25KN …………..…OK!!!
Therefore No shear reinforcement is required.

From the serviceability results of the above table, the effective depth in S9 governs the design
for all end and interior slab. C2 governs the design for all cantilever slab.

ds max = 99.92 mm
dc max= 92.08 mm
Assuming Φ10mm reinforcement bars and 15mm concrete cover. Hence
Overall Depth for two way slab (Ds)=99.92+15+10/2=111.92mm, Use Ds=120mm
d=120-15-10/2=100mm (for shorter span reinforcement)
d=120-15-10-10/2=90mm (for longer span reinforcement)
Overall depth for cantilever slab (Dc) = 92.08+15+10/2+= 112.08 mm, Use Dc=120mm
dmin = 120-15-10/2=100mm

C. Span Moment Adjustment

Calculation of adjusted span moments based of change of support moments.

If a support moment is increased, no adjustments shall be
made to the span moments.

ρ = Ast/bd where Ast =572mm2 , b=1000m & d = 100mm
Where As is the area of the tensile reinforcement anchored beyond the intersection of the
steel
and the line of a possible 450 cracking strength from the edge of section.
ρ = Ast/bd =572/(1000*100) = 0.00572
k1 = 1+50*0.00572 = 1.26 < 2 …………....OK!!!
k2 = 1.6 - 0.1 = 1.5 > 1 ……… ……OK!!!

fctd = fctk/γc = 1.5/1.5 = 1.0 N/mm2 ………EBCS-2/1995 section 2.4 & table 2.5
Vc = 0.25*fctd*k1*k2*bw*d =0.25*1*1.26*1.5*1000*100= 47.25KN
Vsd = 34.03KN < Vc = 47.25KN …………..…OK!!!
Therefore No shear reinforcement is required.
