Inert Gas Generator KANGRIM 5. ADJUSTMENT AND TOLERANCES, MAINTENANCE 5.1 ADJUSTMENT AND TOLERANCE, 5.1.1 Oil burner The oil atomizer position, relative to the air deflecting cone, can be adjusted by loosening the gland nut on the burner gun carrier tube and moving the oil gun outwards or inwards. The best position is easiest found if the adjustments are made with the burner in operation, and by measuring the inert gas CO-content. ‘The correct position is nom|aHy indicated by a distinct drop in measured CO-content. ‘Without an instrument for measuring the CO-content, the best position for the atomizer is to be found as follows: 1 Start the I.G. generator, Adjust the atomizer slow-upwards or downwards whilst at the same ~ time observing the name colour in the sight glass. The best position is achieved when most of the name burns clean blue-Further improvement is only obtained with equipment for measuring of CO-content. The improvement is only in range of some ppm CO. In Fig. 6.3 the atomizer is set to the theoretically best position by our workshop. be found by our service engineer. During operation the best position 5.1.2 The Combustion Air System ‘The combustion air pressure to the main burner is indicated on Pressure gauge (Item No. 1610 ). Normal value: 0.25 — 0.35 bar g. 5.1.3 The Fuel Oil System ‘The fuel oil pressure to the main bumer is indicated on pressure gauge (Item No.1650). Normal value approx.: 25 bar g. The pressure may be adjusted with the pressure regulating valve (Item No, 6100) to the by-pass line of the fuel oil pump, but should normally not be touched, once it is set correct-on initial commissioning. This pressure should equal an on now of oil consumption rate at I.G capaci (3% 02 by volume). The fuel oil capacity is controlled from the oxygen analyzer. EP positioner EP0062 for blower capacity control valve must be calibrated to obtain 0%(4mA) outlet sight at 0% and 100%(20mA) at 100% set pointon indicators HIC — 2230. KANGRIM INDUSTRIES CO., LTD. 40 52 521 Inert Gas Generator KANGRIM Maintenance General Period to doing any maintenance or repair, read the‘ Safety precautions’. ‘Next pages include the maintenance schedule for the installation. The detailed instructions for ‘maintenance and repair of equipment can be found in the instruction manuals of the sub-suppliers Because maintenance very much depends on the operating conditions, the maintenance intervals might have to be shortened or extended, This is to operator's experience. Before removing any accessory out of or from service piping, be certain that the relevant isolating valves should be closed and the released pressure(if applicable). Following every maintenance operation involving entry to the fan interior, ensure that . All tools and other equipment have been removed 2. All access doors have been closed and securely fastened . All guards are in position and securely fastened Where maintenance work requires that the fan must be stopped (i. for work on rotating parts or the fan interior) ensure that all power supplies are isolated and that the impeller has ceased to rotate. Close relevant dampers to prevent air movement through the fan. If necessary, retain the impeller from turning by wedging or tying. Never attempt to open access doors or remove guards while the fan is running, Due to the high noise level generated by these fans, it is essential that suitable protective ‘equipment is worn by personnel who are in close proximity to it WE LIKE TO EMPHASIZE THAT IN CASE OF A LONGER STAND-STILL, THE. INSTALLATION MUST BE SWITCHED ON EACH MONTH FOR APPROXIMATELY HALF AN HOUR TO AVOID CORROSION, VALVES BEING JAMMED, ete. All plant auxiliaries are listed in “PART LIST” The plant particulars to be checked at regular intervals as listed below, and any defects or irregularities found must be rectified as soon as possible, KANGRIM INDUSTRIES CO., LTD. 41 Inert Gas Generator KaANGRIM Items to be Checked at Regular Intervals In accordance with the makers specification, Electrical motors for blower’s and fuel oil pumps, ‘Combustion air blowers All pneumatic operated equipment such as: ~ Pressure controllers. - Valve positioners, - Manual loading stations, Fuel oil pumps. Other Items to be Checked Regularly. Oil strainers. When necessary, filter baskets to be checked and cleaned with petroleum, diesel oil, white spirit or Oil Nozzles. (Main and ignition burner) ‘The oil nozzles to be disassembled and internals inspected. See special instruction for the main nozzle. The integrated oil strainer to be cleaned in petroleum, diesel oil, white spi clean with compressed air. etc. and blown All openings and slots in the nozzle must show clean cut, sharp edges. The swirl chamber and the outlet orifice to be circular with no signs of ovality. NOTE! No steel or metal wire etc. must be used to open dirty or clogged openings in the nozzle. It is absolutely essential for good performance of the plant that the atomising nozzle is in good condi ion. Filter before O2 analyzer. The fiilter can be cleaned as follows Dip the filter in Acetone for 5 - 10 min, Wash the filter in water with a litle soap, then clean the filter in fresh water until all soap (and acetone) is removed. Please note that the fiiter is of PTFE material and must be handled with care. KANGRIM INDUSTRIES CO., LTD. 42 Inert Gas Generator Water spray nozzles. ‘The water sway nozzles can be inspected through sight glass in the cooling tower. Remove the nozzles for inspection and cleaning. ‘any signs of clogging or abnormal spray are visible. ‘An air vent pipe is fitted from top of coding jacket to sight glass. If there are no signs of air at pipe outlet, the burner can be ignited. ‘Oxygen analyzer For analyzer maintenance and calibration instructions. Do not operate the plant with oxygen content lower than 1 % by volume. If there is an absolute need for gas wit an oxygen content of less than 1%, the plant may be operated at a lower value, if special attention is paid to the below listed items. By operation at low oxygen values special attention should be paid to the following: a) b) °) d e) Note! Carefully calibrate the oxygen analyzer. Use a clean-oil atomising nozzle in best possible condition, Check stability during running conditions. Sample the gas at regular interval. The operator should always be present. ‘The NOx and CO values will normally increase of decreasing O2 content. Valves and equipment. Normally the valves in the system do not need any regular service, but in order to avoid sticking valves etc, it is recommended that the plant is started for 15 ~ 30 minutes once a week. 1g the combu: chamber cooling jacket NEVER USE SALT WATER The combustion chamber cooling jacket of the generator must be rinsed with fresh water after each stop(only if the install n is stopped for a period of I(one) day or longer. ‘The fresh water is entered into the combustion chamber cooling jacket. Rinse the chamber with fresh water for about 20 minutes, KANGRIM INDUSTRIES CO., LTD. 43
