AN ACT

To convert the United States to use the metric system of measurement.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in
Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the “United States Metrification Act of 2020”

SECTION 2. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE/NEED

(1) To create a Federal law requiring the United States to switch to the metric system regardless of
opinion.
(2) To ensure that companies have an easier and faster way of producing goods.

(3) To invoke the power of the United States to trade more fluidly with other nations.

(4) To ensure the promise of equal understanding of measurement across the world for all people. Nasa
has faced challenges working with two measurement systems in the past, most famously it lost a $125
million probe after it faced challenges with a corporation in Denver that used the imperial system. Due
to this error, the mission failed and NASA lost a $125 million probe. It is very important to switch
because it can prevent errors like this in the future. Metric conversion also is 45% faster taking less
time to do equations and train people like teachers and students, which saves classroom time.

SECTION 3. PROVISIONS – BENEFITS AND ELIGIBILITY.

(1) All construction and engineering entities across the united states can easily use designs all around
the world.
Allows the use of designs to be manufactured and used in all countries.

(2) All educational facilities must use only the metric system when training teachers

and educating students. This allows time and money to be spent learning one system

which will reduce costs.

(3) Public street signs (Speed Limits and Distance Signs) must use metric units to

ensure the understanding of those who only know one measurement system.

(4) Government agencies must use the metric system to plan out public facilities. This

will allow agencies to build facilities and get plans from independent contractors easily

without conversions.

SECTION 4. PROVISIONS - TERMS AND BENEFITS OF SERVICE

(1) It shall be unlawful for any form of government to not use this system of measurement as their
primary system of measurement.

(2) It shall be unlawful for an employment agency to not use the SI units as the primary system of
measurement for their company.

(3) It shall be unlawful for road signs to be in imperial units.

(4) It shall be unlawful for a child to be taught imperial units in school.

(5) It shall be unlawful for first responders to use imperial units.

SECTION 5. ADMINISTRATION (Government agencies and the department to execute the law
once it’s passed) The United States Metric Board, the department of transportation, the President, and
all courts of the United States shall have the same powers delegated to them to enforce the United
States Metrification Act to investigate any claim of violation of this Act and properly enforce the law.

SECTION 6. AUTHORIZATION OF APPROPRIATIONS (Include amount of funding requested

AND rational) In order to carry out an effective means of converting the United States to the metric
system of measurement, we will authorize $20 billion for the fiscal years of 2020-2030. In such cases
where a covered entity violates the law as put forth by this Act, the United States Government shall be
liable for the costs of a reasonable attorney’s fee for the defendant. An extra 5% or $100,000,000
million will be necessary to combat new employment based opportunities. In order to guarantee equal
opportunity, as is a goal of the United States Government, such appropriations must be authorized. The
money for this bill will come from a cut in military spending as well as heavier taxes on alcohol. There
will be a 50% tax on alcohol and $15 billion taken from military funding over 10 years.
