Water + Acetic Acid

Component Selection
For water and acetic acid mixture first we select the component by clicking on components
selection button.

Method Selection
We selected NRTL method first by clicking on method specification button.
Txy Diagram
By Clicking on analysis button , go to the binary and set the pressure value that is 101.325 kPa.

Results
Click Run Analysis button. The Txy will be generated.
For UNIQUAC Method

Txy Diagram:
For Txy diagram we select the button analysis and go no binary button and give the
specification.
Results:
Click on run analysis button and generate the Txy diagram.

Discussion:
Based on Txy diagram we can see that we can separate the water from acetic acid by using the
suitable method that is NRTL. According to Txy diagram, it shows that separation becomes easy
for this method.
Ethanol- Ethyl Acetate
Component Selection:
Create a new simulation in Aspen Plus using the Blank Simulation template. The Components |
Specification | Selection sheet is displayed. Enter Ethanol and Ethyl acetate for Component ID.

Method Selection
Go to the method selection and select the NRTL method for base method.

Txy
Diagram:
We can create the Txy diagram by clicking on the analysis button and ho to the binary.

Results
By clicking on the Run Analysis, Txy diagram will be generated.
For UNIQUAC Method:

Txy Diagram
We can create the Txy diagram by clicking on the analysis button and ho to the binary.

Discussion:
By using NRTL and UNIQUAC method, we observed that ethanol and ethyl acetate forms an
azeotrope where its composition becomes same. We can see that at increasing temperature we
can separate both components at isobaric condition. Results are similar from both method but
UNIQUAC method is more suitable for separation of ethyl acetate and ethanol.
