Name one of the factors that may cause problems in the study of the Scripture (based from the
reading material “Getting Acquainted with the Bible” and the video discussion on “Overview
and Worldview of the Hebrew Scripture”) and explain why and how it could be a problem. Limit
your answer in one paragraph only.

Base on the reading material that I have read and the video that I’ve watched, one major
factor that may cause problems in the study of the Scripture is the multiple and differing texts of
the same document. “Whatever copy of Bible we may have in whatever translation is already a
translation from a text that is just a copy of a copy of a copy a copy of the original text.” This
explains that there have been subsequent variations and translations made and of course,
inconsistency that a person will encounter in the process of the study. Especially the Filipino
Christians, it is inevitable that one may indeed look for an original piece or work of the scripture.
What makes it problematic is the fact that no manuscript can be found in our country, the
Philippines. Most of those who study the Scripture will only look at pictures from museums
since no original work/s can be seen. This is a problem for those people since they need original
works to better understand the readings and in preparation to receive their personal
revelation. The need for them to seeking a coherent, rational and comprehensible way of
apprehending the text and the scripture is in demand.
