context of the document, and (4) the text’s contribution to understanding Philippine history.

KARTILYA NG KATIPUNAN

Kartilya ng Katipunan implies not only for freedom but for change
and betterment. It gives emphasis on how one can live a happy and
satisfied life that everyone craves for and that is not about the physical
things nor the title that one can achieve but the characteristics one
should possess, not only for our own but for everyone that surrounds us.
It also gives weight to living meaningful lives for a better tomorrow.

The Kartilya ng Katipunan teaches us the righteous values. As they

were fighting for freedom for all, the book was a guide for them who
were part of the organization and even to us now, who are experiencing
this freedom filled life. It is not only applicable for them, in fact, it is a
preparation for the life that is bound for them, and that is this life we are
now living. That is why it is more important for us to practice these traits
and characteristics for a peaceful life. And for this to be successful we
must remember that it is not only for one but for everyone. As everyone
practices these traits, it will be a more peaceful life.

This book gave us a glimpse of what our ancestors are, of what

traits they had and what they want to incorporate for the future
generations. That, it is not only about freedom but also about change.
There have to be a change in order for freedom to come. It is our job to
continue to acquire this freedom they once fought and thirst for, and
one of the ways that we can give tribute to them is through living the
lives they lived when freedom was still not within their reach. They
wanted a nation filled with morally sound Filipinos amidst any situation,
in freedom or in captive. It is one of the most important organization
that was created in the Philippine history for it withholds how one
should thrive for freedom, change and righteousness.
