Before Using
This manual describes the procedure to set the editing
environment before using the hardware listed in
the following "Notations of Grass Valley hardware
products" after installing EDIUS.

Notations of Grass Valley hardware


products
This manual describes the notations of Grass Valley
hardware products according to that of EDIUS 6 as
follows. Referring to the following table, confirm the
Grass Valley hardware products installed in your PC.
The screens and the setting items on EDIUS 6 differ
depending on the installed Grass Valley hardware
products.

Section  2
Installation of EDIUS
This section describes how to install EDIUS to the PC
where Grass Valley hardware products mounted and
the procedure to confirm that the driver is installed
successfully after EDIUS is installed.

Installing EDIUS
Mount Grass Valley hardware products to the PC
and then install EDIUS 6. When installing EDIUS, the
drivers are installed at the same time.
For details on the installation procedure, see the
Installation Guide of EDIUS.

Confirmation after installation


Confirming resource (Windows 7/Windows Vista)
Confirm whether driver has been normally installed
after restarting when EDIUS installation is finished.
1 Proceed to "Hardware and sound" from "Control
Panel" of "Start" menu.
In Windows Vista, proceed to "System and
Maintenance" from "Control Panel" of "Start" menu.
2 Click "Device Manager".

3 Double-click "Sound, video and game controllers".

4 Confirm the device name.

**Above is one of the screens.


• For RX-E1 MIP/RX-E1
"RX-E1" is displayed for the device name.
• For SHX-E1/SHX-E1 SDI/NHX-E1/NHX-E1 Bay
"HX-E1" is displayed for the device name.
• For SHX-E2/SHX-E2 SDI/NHX-E2/NHX-E2 Bay
"HX-E2" is displayed for the device name.

Confirmation after installation

If you find ! or X mark at the top of device name, that


means you failed installing driver.
Try installation again, check competitive resource, or
change board insertion position.
5 Close "Device Manager".
Checking the driver for the main board now finishes.

Confirming the expansion board driver


For SHX-E1/SHX-E2/SHX-E1 SDI/SHX-E2 SDI/NHX-E1/
NHX-E2/NHX-E1 Bay/NHX-E2 Bay, confirm the
successful installation of the driver of the expansion
board HX-HD1 with the following procedure.
1 Open "Device Manager".

2 Double-click the following items to check that the


driver is installed.
"1394 Bus host controllers"
• Device-"NEC OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host
Controller"
3 Close "Device Manager".

When resources compete


EDIUS will not operate normally if multiple devices
compete or share PC resources. Try following solution.
• Remove other devices that share interrupt request or
change IRQ of other devices.
• Change resource setting with BIOS of PC or
motherboard. See instruction manual of PC or
motherboard since BIOS setting method varies by
manufacturer.

POINT • The method to assign IRQ varies


depending on the PC or motherboard
manufacturer. Some types assign
arbitrary IRQ to each PCI Express slot
with BIOS, other types program special
IRQ in advance.

Confirming resource (in Windows XP)


Confirm whether driver has been normally installed
after restarting when EDIUS installation is finished.
1 Double-click "System" from "Control panel" of
"start" menu.
Or right-click "My Computer" of "start" menu and
select "Properties".
2 Select "Hardware" tab and click [Device Manager].

3 Double-click "Sound, video and game controllers".

4 Confirm the device name.

• For RX-E1 MIP/RX-E1
"RX-E1" is displayed for the device name.
• For SHX-E1/SHX-E1 SDI/NHX-E1/NHX-E1 Bay
"HX-E1" is displayed for the device name.

Confirming the expansion board driver


For SHX-E1/SHX-E2/SHX-E1 SDI/SHX-E2 SDI/NHX-E1/
NHX-E2/NHX-E1 Bay/NHX-E2 Bay, confirm the
successful installation of the driver of the expansion
board HX-HD1 with the following procedure.
1 Open "Device Manager".

2 Double-click the following items to check that the
driver is installed.
"1394 Bus host controllers"
• Device-"NEC OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host
Controller"
"Network adapters"
• Driver-"1394 Net Adapter"
**#2 of "1394 Net Adapter #2" may appear when
connecting and disconnecting boards several times.
Display description varies depending on your
environment.

3 Close "Device Manager".

When resources compete


EDIUS will not operate normally if multiple devices
compete or share PC resources. Try following
solutions.
• Remove other devices that share interrupt request or
change IRQ of other devices.

Section 3
Configuring Editing Environments
This section describes how to store the information of
the connected devices used for capturing or printing
to tape, and how to configure the devices used while
editing.
Before editing, configure the following editing
environments.

POINT • The USB key must be attached to a USB


port of your PC in order to use EDIUS 6.

Note • The contained screens are those for


SHX-E2 SDI. The displays for the other
Grass Valley hardware products might
differ.

Storing Device Presets


Store and manage the connection information of Grass
Valley hardware products and external devices which
are used for capturing or printing to tape (cameras,
decks, web cameras, and microphones) as the device
presets.
By using the device presets stored, Input/Output can
be operated smoothly when capturing or printing to
tape.
This section describes how to store a device preset by
an example when Grass Valley hardware product is
used for input.

Storing Device Presets

POINT • External devices (removable media such


as CD/DVD, AVCHD camera, and SD
memory card) on which video or audio
data are stored as files do not need to be
stored as a device preset.

1 Start up EDIUS and create a project.


For the details of starting up EDIUS and the project
settings, refer to EDIUS User Reference Guide.
2 Connect the device used for input to Grass Valley
hardware product.

3 Click "Settings" on the menu bar and click "System


Settings".

4 Click the "Hardware" tree and click "Device


Preset".

5 Click [New].

"Preset Wizard" appears.


6 Enter the device preset name.

7 Click [Select Icon], select the image of the icon, and


then click [OK].
To use an image you like, click […] and select the
desired file.
8 Click [Next]

The screen to configure the connection information for


input and to configure the format settings is displayed.

9 Click the pulldown of "Interface" and select the


Grass Valley hardware product for input.
The names of the mounted Grass Valley hardware
products are displayed in the "Interface" list.

POINT • When connecting an HDV device to


the IEEE1394 port on your PC, select
"Generic HDV", when connecting a
DV device to IEEE1394 port on your
PC, select "Generic OHCI", and when
inputting from a video capture device
or an audio capture device based
on DirectShow, select "DirectShow
Capture". When you do not use any
interface for input, select "Not Select".

10 Click the pulldown of "Stream" and select the


terminal to use for video input.
• For RX-E1 MIP
Select one of either "HD-SDI", "SD-SDI", "Component",
"S-Video", or "Composite".
• For RX-E1
The setting of "SDI" is fixed.

Select a setting from "SDI", "Component", "S-Video",
"Composite" and "DV".
• For SHX-E1/SHX-E2
Select a setting from "Component", "S-Video",
"Composite" and "DV".
• For NHX-E1 Bay/NHX-E2 Bay
Select a setting from "Composite", "S-Video", "DV",
"S-Video (Bay)" and "Composite (Bay)". To input from
Bay, select "S-Video (Bay)" or "Composite (Bay)".
• For NHX-E1/NHX-E2
Select a setting from "Composite", "S-Video" and "DV".
11 Click the pulldown of "Video Format" and select
the video format of the source data to be captured
from the list.

The input setting screen of Grass Valley hardware

When EDIUS recognizes an input device used for
capturing, the video from the input device is displayed
on the upper part of the screen.

13 Click the "Settings" tree and click an item to set.

Configure the input setting of Grass Valley hardware

to be used for capturing from the list.
Depending on the selected codec, the detailed codec
settings are available by clicking [Settings].

17 Configure the other items if necessary and click [Next].


The screens for configuring the connection
information or format at outputting is displayed.
18 Click the pulldown of "Interface" and select the
Grass Valley hardware product for output.
The names of the mounted Grass Valley hardware
products are displayed in the "Interface" list.

POINT • When printing to tape of a DV device


using IEEE1394 port on your PC, select
"Generic OHCI". When not using the
interfaces for outputting, exporting to
an HDV device, or printing to tape of
a device not controlled by deck, select
"Not Select".
• In "Output H/W. Format Settings" of
device preset, configure the settings for
an output destination device (such as a
tape deck) which can be controlled by
EDIUS. When the output is performed
from the output terminal unavailable
for the deck control, the video is always
output according to the project settings.
Configure the setting in "Preview
Device" for the output from the output
terminal unavailable for the deck
control.

the video format of output destination.

Color bar is displayed on the upper part of the screen.
When the output video format is specified properly,
color bar is displayed also in the output devices.

Setting a Preview Device


External devices such as a monitor, which is connected
to a PC and used for checking while editing, or Grass
Valley hardware products can be managed as preview
devices and the detailed settings can be configured.
This section describes how to set Grass Valley
hardware product as a preview device and configure
the detailed settings.
1 Connect the device used for editing to Grass Valley
hardware product.

2 Click "Settings" on the menu bar and click "System


Settings".

3 Click the "Hardware" tree and click "Preview


Device".

Setting a Preview Device

4 Click the Grass Valley hardware product to use as


a preview device.
Grass Valley hardware products available for the
preview device are displayed.

A check mark appears on the side of the device name.

POINT • When "Use Pulldown Format when


Available" is checked and pulldown to
a general format (59.94i/50i/59.94p/50p)
is available, pulldown output is
prioritized. Check it when you
use a monitor not supporting
23.98p/29.97p/25p display.

5 Click [Settings].

The detailed setting screen for the preview device


appears.
Color bar is displayed on the upper part of the screen
and also on the monitor of the preview device.

Note • When the preview device is not


compatible with the video format set in
the current project setting, a warning
message appears. Modify the project
setting according to the preview device.

6 Click the "Settings" tree and click an item to set.

Detailed settings for Grass Valley


hardware products
The device presets and the detailed setting of preview
devices are described. The setting items differ depending
on the Grass Valley hardware products you use.

™™ Sync Settings

SyncMode
Select a sync signal to use from the list. When
a signal that cannot be synchronized is input,
it may cause the long duration to switch or
distorted videos.
REF input sync (Tri-Level)/REF Input Sync (BB)
When the format is HD, it can be
synchronized to Tri-Level sync signal or
Black Burst signal.
When the format is SD, it can be
synchronized to the Black Burst signal only.
REF Input Sync
Black Burst signal is used.
Input Sync
The input signal selected for capturing is
used as the sync signal.
OFF (free run)
Sync signal is not used. Each device operates
individually.
Internal SG Sync (Tri-Level)/Internal SG Sync
(BB)
Sync signal generated by RX-E1 MIP is used.
The REF OUT terminal of RX-E1 MIP outputs
a Tri-Level sync signal or Black Burst signal.

"NO SIGNAL/SIGNAL OK" indicates whether


a reference signal which can be synchronized
with the current output video format is
detected.
Phase Adjust
Adjusts sync mode phase.

Capture even if there is no sync


Check this item to capture forcibly even if
there is no sync. (Normally capturing is not
possible if there is no sync.) However, the
possibility becomes higher for the captured
video to be distorted.

Restore the default settings.

Output settings
Monitor Format
Setup for monitor. Select "Multi format" for
the monitor that can automatically
recognize the switch of SD and HD. Select
the connecting terminal, "HD" or
"SD", for the monitor with SD and HD
terminals separately.
Mute if this setting does not match the output
format
Check when you do not output signal when
the previous setting is different from video
format setting of timeline.

Detailed settings for Grass Valley hardware products

Setup Level
Select the setup level (black level) of NTSC
from "0IRE" and "7.5IRE". 0IRE is used in
Japan, and 7.5IRE is used in North America.
Component Level
Select component level in NTSC.
SD Component Gain
Adjust the output gain of SD Component
signal.
Enable Wide Screen Signaling
If TV complies with Wide Screen Signal
(WSS: signal to switch aspect ratio), aspect
ratio automatically switches (4:3 or 16:9).
When WSS is not necessary, remove the
check.

grayscale.
Sharpness

Black Gain
Strengthen the gain in the low luminance
areas of the luminance signal. Set a higher
value to emphasize black. If you select

Configure the adjustment level of the black
expansion. Set the higher level to emphasize
black.
Threshold
Configure the luminance level (brightness) to
emphasize black. Move the cursor to the right
to set a higher level.

White Gain
Weaken the gain in the high luminance areas
of the luminance signal. Improve the tone
reproduction of a part which is whitened
out due to the high luminance. If you select
"None", "Adaptation Level" and "Threshold"
become disabled.
Adaptation Level
Configure the adjustment level of the limit
for the white gain. Set a higher level to make
adjustment level lower.
Threshold
Configure the luminance level (brightness) to
adjust the less white gain. Move the cursor to
the left to set a lower level.

VCR Constants
VCR ID
VCR Constant 1 byte1 and byte2 are
displayed.
For SONY decks, the deck ID (including
model/mode) is displayed.
Check for Deck ID
Click it to load VCR ID (deck ID) from the
connected deck.
VCR
Display the deck name corresponding to the
VCR ID (only ID and deck names which are
set as preset). If there are multiple decks with
the same ID, all the decks are displayed.
Edit Delay
VCR Constant 1 Byte 6 is displayed.
If the deck is not in the preset, enter manually.
E-E Delay
VCR Constant 1 Byte 5 is displayed.
If the deck is not in the preset, enter manually.
Start Delay
VCR Constant 2 Byte 2 (Data 10 depending on
the VCR) is displayed.
If the deck is not in the preset, enter manually.

Initialize the edit delay, E-E delay, and start

one image (720x486).
Side panel color
When "Side panel", "4% Overscan & Side
