1. Is the meeting between Len Ewing and Evco formal or informal? Give reasons for your answer
Answer:
The meeting between Len Ewing and Evco is quite informal because they use first name and
generally they seem relaxed and enjoy the meeting but they little talk about serious matters in
the end.
2. Do they know each other quite well?
Answer:
They don’t know each other quite well because they have never met before. Len Ewing and
Luisa Caldos, they just have spoken on the phone a couple times
3. Len has a problem. What is it?
Answer: Len wants to buy some fish to take home and he asked Luisa and Jack to suggest a
good place to get some fish.
Part 2
1. She interrupts him at start. Is this acceptable?
Answer:
Luisa’s interruption is probably acceptable. But it will be better if Luisa asking permission first
to Len because this is the first meeting for them.
2. They use first names. Is this right, given the situation?
Answer:
No, this is not right. Actually this is the first meeting for them so they shouldn't use first name
without permission. It should be “Mr. Ewing” or “Ms. Caldos” until they give permission to use
first name to each other
3. Jack begins to talk about the program for the day. Is this appropriate at this stage?
Answer:
I think Jack begins to talk about the programme for the day quite quickly. They should have
more time to small talk or preliminaries. And they can begins to talk about the program.

Visitor : Hello my name is Jame Linden from Amtel. I hav ean appointment with Sandra
Bates.
Receptionis : Oh, yes Mr. Linden. Welcome to Datalink. Ms Bates will be here in few
t minutes. She is in the meeting and it’s just ending. Can I get you somethink to
drink?
Visitor : No, thanks. I’m fine. But I wonder if I could use a phone?
Receptionis : Yes of course, and anything else, if you need to send a fax or anything

Visitor : No, it’s okay. Just the phone.
Receptionis : Right, well yoou can use this one

Visitor : Thanks. (make a call in Italian)

Receptionis : Not at all. If there’s anything else you need, please ask anything

Receptionis : It’s about two miles, ten minutes by taxi. Should I get one?

Receptionis : Right, I’ll do that. Oh, I think Ms Bates is free now. Shall I take you to her
