The Tools Layout
Most of the spots in the Toolbar contain more than one tool. A small arrow in the bottom right corner
of a tool’s icon means that there are additional tools hiding behind it in the same spot:

Move And Selection Tools
The Move Tool( V )
is used to move layers, selections and guides within a Photoshop document.
Enable "Auto-Select" to automatically select the layer or group you click on.
Artboard Tool ( V ) (new in Photoshop CC)
allows you to easily design multiple web or UX (user experience) layouts for different devices or
screen sizes.
Rectangular Marquee Tool * ( M )
The Rectangular Marquee Tool draws rectangular selection outlines. Press and hold Shift as you
drag to draw a square selection.
Elliptical Marquee Tool ( M )
The Elliptical Marquee Tool draws elliptical selection outlines. Press and hold Shift to draw a
selection in a perfect circle.
Single Row Marquee Tool
The Single Row Marquee Tool in Photoshop selects a single row of pixels in the image from left
to right.
Single Column Marquee Tool
Use the Single Column Marquee Tool to select a single column of pixels from top to bottom
Lasso Tool * ( L )
With the Lasso Tool, you can draw a freeform selection outline around an object.
Magnetic Lasso Tool ( L )
The Magnetic Lasso Tool snaps the selection outline to the edges of the object as you move
your mouse cursor around it.
Polygonal Lasso Tool ( L )
Click around an object with the Polygonal Lasso Tool to surround it with a polygonal, straight-
edged selection outline.
Quick Selection Tool * ( W )
The Quick Selection Tool lets you easily select an object simply by painting over it with a brush.
Enable "Auto-Enhance" in the Options Bar for better quality selections.
Magic Wand Tool ( W )
Photoshop's Magic Wand Tool selects areas of similar color with a single click. The "Tolerance"
value in the Options Bar sets the range of colors that will be selected.

Creating a New File
You can create a new image from scratch by choosing File > New (CTRL + N). Select a document
preset. You can customize the preset by typing in your own values, like width and height.

The Power of Layers
Layers allow you to stack different objects and images to keep your work separated, ordered and
easily editable.
1. Choose File > Place Embedded, navigate to an image file in File Explorer (Windows) or Finder
(macOS) and click Place.

Crop an image
CROP TOOL
The easiest way to crop your image is to click and drag the handles to reshape the border into any size
you need. The area inside the border is what you'll be keeping, and the area outside it will be cropped
away. To reset the border, press the Esc key on your keyboard.
While cropping, hold SHIFT to keep the image in shape. Press ENTER after setting the crop selection.

Select > Filter Gallery > choose any filter you want.
You also can edit an image to control the Brightness, Exposure, Hue/ Saturation and so on. To do so
by clicking at the Menu Bar, Image > Adjustment > select any
i. Create a new document, click the Create new fill or adjustment layer icon at the bottom of the
Layers panel, and choose Gradient.
ii. Create the gradient fill using the Colors #3e6181 to the left and #46aaab to the right, and check
the Dither box.
iii.
iv. Add a Pattern fill layer, set the Pattern to Fractures, and change the layer's Blend Mode to Colour
Burn.

v. To adjust the space between character (Kerning). Go to Window then Character. Highlight
your text, then change the character leading or kerning.
i. Select the Text tool (T) and highlight the text, click on the “Create warped text” icon in the
toolbar. Select any of style for the text.

Retouch and Healing tools
The healing brush tool allows you to fix image imperfection such scratches, blemishes, etc. By
sampling the surrounding area or using a predefined pattern.

i. Select part of the face using Quick Selection Tool or Polygonal Lasso Tool
ii. Create a flawless face using Filter > Blur > Surface Blur > Adjust the Radius > OK.

Clipping Mask
A clipping mask lets you use the content of a layer to mask the layers above it. The masking is
determined by the content of the bottom or base layer. The non-transparent content of the base
layer clips (reveals) the content of the layers above it in the clipping mask. All other content in the
clipped layers is masked out.
i. Open an image
ii. Create a new layer
iii. Using the Text Tool, type word LOVE. Adjust the text size and font type.
iv. Arrange the layers in the Layers panel because when the clipping mask is applied, the
top layer will follow the shape of the bottom layer.
v. Make sure the text layer is at the bottom of the image layer.
vi. Right Click at the image layer at layer panel > Create Clipping Mask.
