CNC MACHINE TOOLS
The CNC or computer numerical control is a system that allows the
control of the position of an element mounted inside a machine
tool by means of software specially designed for it.

Components:
 Part program: where are all the instructions that we want give to a machine tool.
 Unit control: basically it’s our computer.
 Tools and accessory’s
 PLC: programmable logic unit

Main features of CNC

 Machine tool is fully operated by computer
 Part program is held in memory
 Part program can be edited in Control Unit
 Part Program testing
 Machine tool control (interpolation)
 Hybrid CNC (hardwired logic circuits)
 Straight CNC (computer controls all NC functions)
 In-process compensation
 Diagnostics
 Canned Cycles
One of the main advantages of cnc machines is that we do not need perforated tapes for
each piece, because having a computer we can edit directly and save or erase in our
memory.

Part program testing

In any cnc machine that we have in this part of the part
program testing we can verify that our cutting paths that are
made when simulating it in the computer are the same and
that a correct cut is also made in the machine, or in the paths
that it runs.
in short we evaluate the trajectories.
In-Process Compensation
In this part we instruct the machine to compensate
the radius of the cutting tool, so as not to have
imperfections when the machine makes the cut.
In short, a compensation is made with each of the
cutting tools so that it does not make an imperfect
cut in high precision cuts.

Canned cycles
Is a way to perform repetitive operations of the
CNC machine canned cycles are so named because
they allow a short way of programming a machine
to produce a feature of a part. one of the
advantages of canned cycles allows faster and
easier development of programs on the machine.
As canned cycles reduce the number of blocks in a
program, the storage space occupied by the
program is less.

Interpolation
In this part we give the necessary instructions for our cnc cutting
machine to make circular cuts or linear cuts also by means of
interpolation in most modern machines computers already do them by
default.
CNC applications
Processes: cnc cutting has many applications, here are some applications in the following
images.

 Turning
 Milling
 Routing
 Laser cutting and engraving
 3D printing
 Metal removal industry
 Electrical discharge machining
 Plastic injection

Axis Convention
Coordinate axis type
We have two types of coordinates, polar
and Cartesian, the two types of
coordinates are used, it depends on how
the drawings are expressing us, each of
these are used for convenience.

Working planes

In this part we must take into account in which

plane we are working there are three planes XY,
XZ, Y YZ it depends on which plane we are
working to, thus giving the correct instructions to
the CNC machine.
Axis Convention
In the axis convention, all you have to do is
select which axes we are working on. There are
X, Y, Z forward movement axes and A, B, C
rotation axes. All axes are defined with the
right hand rule.

ROTATIONS
According with the right hand rule, what would be the new direction of X,Y and Z axes if
we rotate the system 90° with respect to the Z axis
