The most important concept of Cultural Practices and Traditions of the Tagalogs

is on how they respect elders and on how they value the real essence of Family. One
good example of showing respect towards elders is doing the “MANO”. It is
performed as a sign of respect towards elders and as a way of accepting a blessing
from the elder. It is usually done towards those who are older by two generations or
more. Moreover, it is also one of their special characteristics to have close family
relations it is one of the Tagalogs remarkable traditions. Furthermore, Family bonds
are important to not just in Tagalogs but we, Filipinos. The elderly are honored
and respected and children are taught to say 'po' and 'apo,' showing respect to their
grandparents, from an early age.And this where the special greeting to show
veneration, 'mano,' is being applied whereby you take the hand of an elderly
person and place it on your forehead as if receiving his or her blessing. Lastly, It is
the duty of our generation to acknowledge the necessity and importance of
preserving the rich cultural heritage and traditions. One needs to show respect to
the culture no matter how humble it seems to be. One should feel proud of his
cultural heritage and identity. It is our duty to keep hold of the present culture
firmly and pass on to the coming generation so that it will remain like that for
many more generation to come.
