Advantages of cultural relativism

 no culture is superior to any other culture when comparing systems of morality, law,
politics, etc. as a result, resulting in moral tolerance.
 Cultural beliefs are equally valid and that truth itself is relative, depending on the cultural
environment.
 those who hold to cultural relativism hold that all religious, ethical, aesthetic, and
political beliefs are completely relative to the individual within a cultural identity.
B. Disadvantages of cultural relativism
 Perhaps it is undeniable that different cultures have different moral codes. What is
thought right within one group may horrify the members of another group and vice versa.

 every standard is culture-bound.

 Culture plays a major part in our perception of what is moral, and because of that, it
could also pose some issues since each culture has a unique feature that other culture
doesn’t have.

 cultural relativism challenges our belief in the objectivity and universality of moral truth.

C. I support it because it is accurate and conforms to the standards of my culture. This is also a
product of the culture to which I have grown accustomed.

 Filipinos are very hospitable and friendly; I've noticed that whenever we have guests or
when we are the guests, they treat us well by preparing a dinner for us and accompanying
us. As a symbol of respect, if Filipinos visit, they make sure to help the owner of the
house with dishes after dinner, for example. However, it is also common knowledge
among Filipinos that you should not force your guests to assist you because they are, after
all, guests.
 We Filipinos are very respectful to one another, particularly when speaking to and
addressing elders. To show respect for older men, we used kuya/tito, while for older
women, we used ate/tita. When we speak to elders, we always use po and opo as a sign of
respect, and we do the gesture called "mano" in Filipino.

 Colonial Mentality - Lack of patriotism, or of an active awareness, appreciation and love
of the Philippines and an actual preference for things foreign.
C.
 Extreme personalism - Takes things personally, cannot separate objective task from
emotional involvement. - Because of this the Filipino is uncomfortable with bureaucracy,
with rules and regulations and with standard procedures.
 Emphasis on porma rather than substance - This lack of analysis and emphasis on form is
reinforced by an educational system that is more from than substance.
D. How to resolve personalism
 Give and accept more compliments and encouragements - this prevents hopelessness and
instead provides strength and passion to complete what has been started. Avoid starting a
goal/project if you know you won't be able to complete it.

 The key to overcoming these differences, according to Dr. Abramson, is that “the
younger folks can teach the older folks something and the older folks can teach the
younger folks something”. Thus, she suggests “mentor-mentee relationships, downward
and upward”. Let us break it down in simpler terms. The term "generation" refers to a
certain set of people, such as our parents or grandparents, who were born during a time
when common attitudes toward issues were different from what they are today. The "gap"
caused by this difference in the timeline of society's evolution is frequently blamed for
most of the youth's today's behaviors that are detested by the old.
F.
 It might be difficult to comprehend and create a good relationship between siblings born
from different generations. The primary reason for this is that each generation has had its
own set of experiences and struggles, which instills various beliefs and opinions. If the
generation difference is not addressed properly, these differing perspectives can impede
communication and harm the relationship.
