Nursing Ethics Reniel Sanchez

Episode 7:

Since the president of Geosan Hospital is really eager to stop Teacher Kim from operating
the chairman, he assigned some of his health workers in Geosan to Doldam Hospital. It’s interesting
to watch because I will have the chance to compare how different health workers work knowing
that they come from different institution. Are they going clash or have a good relationship? Are the
ways or style of these nurses ethical or unethical? Let’s all find out!

 1st scenario- By watching this scene where the health workers of Doldam and Geosan met, I
can feel that there is a tension going on between the two parties. The same with if there is a
trainee or new hired nurse in a hospital. Some of the head nurse/senior nurseses possess an
undesirable attitude towards the nurse especially if they keep on making the same mistake.
For me, it’s okay to act that way since you are teaching them the protocol of the institution
but they should also know their limitations. I also want to address the attitude of the head
nurse from Geosan to nurse Oh. Knowing that you are new in the hospital, you have to be
polite with the people you are working on the institution you are assigned to. What is
applicable to the previous work is not applicable to the new workplace. That’s why it is
important to build a rapport not just with the patient but also to the co-workers and gain
their trust so that undesirable attitude towards each other will not occur and maintain a
good relationship in order to give the best quality of care to the patient.
 2nd scenario- It’s obvious that they came to Doldam to inspect, make Teacher Kim go down
again and make him reject the operation of the chairman. With that goal, I can say that they
are not concern to the welfare of their co-workers. They are just thinking of themselves
which is not appropriate in a health care setting. In taking care of a patient or simply
working at a health facility, one should possess a positive attitude and observe the virtues of
a real nurse which are justice, humility, prudence, and most importantly honesty to the
work you are doing. It’s proven and tested that if one is not honest with what she/he is
doing there is a big chance that you will encounter a mistake.
 3rd scenario- What I like about Dr. Dr. Seo-Jeong is her dedication to her work. She’s very
willing and passionate to learn from Teacher Kim. When the doctor from Geosan and
Teacher Kim are arguing about the informed consent of the patient at risk, she interrupted
the conversation and provided them the medical law about it. With that attitude, I saw that
her intension was pure. She even volunteered herself in case Dr. Kang doesn’t like to be the
assistant. Even in the previous episodes, what I observed about Dr. Seo-Jeong is her courage
to take the risk which I believe we can learn from it because if one is afraid to do something,
she/he will not know how things should be done.
 4th scenario- Dr. Kang and Dr. In Beom are working on the same field again. You can really
feel the tension between them two. They both want to prove something that’s why they act
that way. For a second time, it’s not appropriate to have that kind of attitude towards a co-
worker because it might affect the performance. Like what happened to Dr. Kang, he did not
make it to the operating room because he is pre-occupied thinking about his hard feelings
towards his co-worker. The same with Dr. In Beom and Dr. Seo-Jeong. We know that they
are half brothers and sister. The way Dr. In Beom treat her is not nice. One thing I realized
and learn from this series is that once you let yourself be part of the profession you like, you
should always choose to act professionally. We are talking about the lives of the patients
here. If we are bothered about the issues in our lives, this might result to unwanted
outcome.

Before I end this diary, I just wanna say it was really an intense episode. From Teacher Kim giving
Dr. Kang hurtful words to entertaining the gangster who entered in the OR to stop the operation.
Honestly, it is my 1st time to encounter that kind of scenario and I’m excited to see what action will
be taken and virtues to be done in the next episode. For now, I just hope that justice will prevail and
the medical group will practice non-maleficence and observe ethical interventions.

Episode 8:
The patient always comes first- no matter what. That stocked on my mind while watching
this episode. Honestly, I was really focused on watching forgetting that I have to take note some
scenarios that are important. Good thing the 1 st 20 minutes of the episode was all about justice and
utilitarianism. Allow me this time to just summarize it and reflect on it. Once again, I adore Teacher
Kim for being a man of his words and taking the courage to continue the operation despite the
situation. He has a point when he decided to continue the operation even though Dr. Seo Jeong will
put into harm. I believe that he is sticking to his duty as a doctor and I’m happy that he did it by
heart. If I were in that case, of course as a nurse I will also feel nervous and anxious but what I saw
with all the health workers in that room was different. They showed courage to support teacher
Kim with his decision even it’s between life and death. Hearing the side of the hostage man still did
not change the mind of teacher Kim, instead he used encouraging words to lessen the madness of
him. I can also relate this episode to the topic we had last week which is about justice. I think the
man was able to achieve the justice that he likes because the patient will suffer from paralysis but
the effect of it is that he also needs to face the consequences of what he did in the operating room.
In my point of view, that is the true meaning of justice and utilitarianism. With the help of teacher
Kim’s powerful words, he was able to save both of the people who is in danger. Lastly, I would like
to emphasis my admiration to Dr. Seo Jeong. After what she experienced, she still showed care to
the man. She still thinks of his welfare which shows compassion and love for your profession. I hope
I will be strong and courageous like her whatever battles and struggles life will give me because I
know in the end, God will still guide me and direct me to the right path.

As I continue watching, I observed that Dr. Kang is still bothered on what the other Dr. told
him about the personality of Teacher Kim. I think he acts that way because he somewhat believe it.
Like what I said before, it is better to talk about it as early as possible so that the work environment
will not be affected. As Dr. Kang keeps doubting and having a bad aura to teacher Kim, teacher Kim
on the other hand keeps on saying encouraging words which I hope Dr. Kang realize that teacher
Kim has a good intention and he only wants to teach him to be a good doctor or I should say, a
romantic doctor. Moving on, because someone from Geosan was spying the medical doctors of
Doldam, they were put into trouble which might lead to suspension of Dr. Seo Jeong and Teacher
Kim. It’s clear that it was unethical because you who are working on the same institute is trying to
put your co-workers in danger. I know that Teacher Kim made that decision so that he can save the
life of the child who needs special treatment. Yes, he also made a decision by himself without
consulting the significant others but if you are in that situation, I think he made the right choice
that’s why he doesn’t deserve to be suspended. Indeed that trust to co-workers is vital in the
workplace so that if ever something happens, they are the one who will save and comfort you not
put you into danger. But because they are planning something or make teacher Kim back out to
operate the chairman, they will all make a way to let him go down.
