 Your plan for future dietary changes

Overall, my dietary habits based on my Nutrient Report were pretty healthy. Most days I fell below my daily caloric
intake, however, I believe this to be a result of lack of accurate measurement on my part. I do not have a scale or the
ability to accurately measure my exact food intake with every meal. Most of the time, when recording a snack or meal, I
would select the option that seemed closest. This could have resulted in some inaccuracies with my Nutrient Report. I
tend to eat a relatively small, low calorie breakfast and lunch. My breakfast usually consists of a whole grain bread, eggs,
and a serving of fruit. For lunch I will often make a smoothie or a salad to incorporate some vegetables into my diet. At
school, I usually meal prep my dinners for the week. My typical meal prep consists of a lean protein such as chicken or
ground turkey, a green vegetable such as spinach or broccoli, and a carbohydrate such as rice or potatoes. Since I am
home for the pandemic, my mother makes dinner for my family. This gives me less control over what I am eating for
dinner but more variety in my meals.
The healthy aspects of my diet include eating fruits, eating lean proteins, and eating complex carbohydrates. I prefer
fruits over vegetables so consuming enough fruit has always been easy for me. I stopped eating red meat about two
years ago and switched to more lean sources of protein such as turkey, fish, and chicken. I try to make sure that I am
eating whole grains and complex carbohydrates. At school, I tend to follow a low carb diet and limit the amount of
carbohydrates I am buying and consuming. The areas of my diet that need improvement are eating more vegetables,
more fiber, less sodium, and less sugar. I have a harder time eating enough servings of vegetables. Since I prefer fruits, I
tend to incorporate spinach or kale into my smoothies because I’ve found that I enjoy them more. My Nutrient Report
brought the lack of fiber in my diet to my attention. Fiber is not something I think about when I am meal prepping but I
realize now that I need to incorporate more into my diet. I could do so by eating more leafy greens, oatmeal, or nuts. In
my nutrient assessment, my sodium was above recommended levels. This was probably due to the buffalo chicken pizza
I had for dinner that evening, which was a treat and not something I eat on the regular. However, it did bring to my
attention that I need to consider the amount of sodium in fast food/takeout, even if they are as a treat. I also have a
major sweet tooth and I have been working hard to limit my amount of added sugars this year.
In the future, I will try to incorporate more vegetables and fiber into my diet. I will also try to log my food into apps
like MyFitness Pal more regularly because it holds me accountable for my nutrition. Lastly, I will continue to limit the
amount of added sugars that I am consuming.
