B.E. FIRST YEAR

SECOND SESSIONAL TEST 2010-2011

Subject: ENGG. MECHANICS Section:

B&E

Time: 1.45 Hr. Max.

Marks: 40
Note: i) Answer TWO questions from Section A and TWO questions from
Section B.

ii) Illustrate your answers wherever necessary with the help of neat
sketches.

iii) Assume suitable data wherever necessary.

Section A

Q.01 Reduce the given force system to a wrench and locate the point of
̂ 15j ̂+ 30k
intersection of wrench axis with the X-Y plane. F̅ = 30i +

̂ passing through origin and a couple M̅ = 125i ̂ - 70j ̂ + 90 k̂.

Q.02 a) What do you understand by the term “Free Body Diagram”?

Illustrate your answer with a few sketches.

b) Three identical cylinders each weighing ‘W’ are stacked as shown

in Fig.01 on smooth inclined surfaces at an angle θ with the
horizontal. Determine the smallest angle θ to prevent the cylinders
from collapsing. 30k 08 20k

b) Determine the magnitude and nature of the force in each

member of the truss shown in Fig.02.

forward and upto the right at θx = 60°, θy = 60°, θz = 60°, P = 21N
and passes from origin through point (3,2,6). The value of T = 18N
