Wind Turbine Project (Sustainable Development Goal 7)
Why should we use wind
turbines?
Our electricity is created mostly from
burning fossil fuels, such as coal, but this
causes pollution that hurts our planet.
Wind turbines use a form of renewable
energy that use the Earth's natural
resources to generate electricity. We
need to create more efficient wind
turbines so that we can use this type of
energy more in the future.
Step Two: Designing
You will need to design a model of your
wind turbine. Annotate the model with
descriptions of the different features.
Do not forget to make a list of all the
materials you will need to build your
wind turbine.
Step Four: Evaluate
How effective was your wind turbine?
Evaluate the wind turbine against the
marking key. Have you been successful
in creating a wind turbine that is
affordable, sustainable and efficient?
Step One: Research
What makes wind turbine's effective?
You will need to research the different
features of wind turbine blades. What
affects the blades turning? This can
include the weight, size, shape or the
number of blades.
You must also investigate
which materials to use to
build an affordable and
sustainable turbine.
Step Three: Creating
You will need to build your wind turbine
with the materials listed in step two. Onc
built, you will need to test the turbine's
speed and evaluate the effectiveness.
Keep making changes to your wind
turbine to make it more efficient.
When you are ready, test
your wind turbine's time
three times and record
the results.

Working Together
For this project you will need to work in groups of four. You must work
collaboratively and ensure that everyone in your group has some input in
researching, designing, creating and evaluating your wind turbine.
