MULAN ( 2020) – Reaction Paper

A classic story of a young Chinese woman who disguises herself as a man to become a
warrior. When the imperial army was threaten by their enemy led by Bori Khan, the
imperial army started to gather amass of soldiers to protect the palace and gathering
one man from each of a family. Since Mulan’s family have no son, her father decided to
join to maintain the family’s honor itself though he was injured but then Mulan grab her
sword and started to act as a warrior hiding her true identity but in the end since she
was a woman, her strength was not even recognize by anyone.

I can say that if apply the Philippine law in this movie, I will definitely choose Republic
Act (R.A.) 9710 or the Act providing magna carta of men. Why I choose this? Because
in the movie you till definitely see the inequality between men and women. This act
tackles the empowerment of women. This act recognize the economic, political, and
sociocultural realities affect women’s current condition.
I can say that this movie contains information that tackles gender and development
specifically the differences between men and women. It obviously reflects how Chinese
people (in the movie) discriminates women as weak being and only lives to bear a child.
In this movie, it shows how men hates women when it comes to physical abilities. But
the story focuses on how Mulan tried her best and shows to everyone specifically to the
imperial family and warriors that even though she is a woman, she can fight and do men
can do regardless of her gender.
She fights for her family and for her own, she is challenging herself in a world that is full
of gender stereotypes and inequality. Her braveness is second to no one plus she is
really resourceful that you can depend on her no matter what the situation is. For me,
the lesson in this movie is that you can do anything you want regardless of your gender,
men and women is created equally. Stepping on other gender won’t get you anything
good.
