EL PRESENTE Y EL PASADO PROGRESIVO1

El progresivo2 se usa para describir un evento en su desarrollo.

El progresivo se forma combinando “BE” con un verbo terminado en “ING” (ando, endo), así:

I AM (was)

HE

SHE IS (was) + VERBO + ING

IT

YOU

WE ARE (were)

THEY

AFIRMATIVO NEGATIVO INTERROGATIVO

He’s telling He isn’t telling Is he telling?

(El está contando)

La “ING” puede usarse para indicar infinito, es decir, puede reemplazar la preposición “TO”, así: I stopped
to train = I stopped training.
NOTA: Los verbos terminados en “IE” cambian dicha “IE” por “Y”, así:
Lie - Lying Die - Dying Tie - Tying
- Los que terminan en “E”, pierden dicha “E”, así: Come – Coming
- Los que terminan en consonante la doblan así.
Let – letting Stop – Stopping

12. The pet is looking around to see where its master is sitting-down, that’s because he wants
it to stay around him.

13. The sun was making the sky so (my, tan) bright that we weren´t able to see the other
stars yesterday.

14. That smoke was going straight up to the sky and that is terrible!
